California & NY getting new outbreaks is disappointing.
The amazing number for me, today, is Arizona (population 7.1M) with almost 5000 new infections & 88 deaths.
Those folks in states where it was relatively contained have Covid fatigue, without a doubt. In Texas & other states there never really was much of an attempt to limit the spread - it was an article of faith (literally) to show you’re not afraid of the virus.
I also wonder how much Mutation G is part of the equation, as from what I read, it’s much more adept at penetrating cells, with the result being a greater spread within individuals, which in turn are more infected, increasing the spread between individuals.
I think it’s pretty plausible this new variant is simply more contagious. In the databanks of new Covid infections - samples of tests - the G variant was 70%, where the D variant originally from Europe had dropped to 30%.
