Hoops tonight, seems to be very little interest about it.

Utes play something called Florida A&M at 6PM whose ranking is somewhere around 340 or so. Well maybe we can tie the team record for treys again.

Going to head up there, if anything, just to spend some time with my mom and dad.

Utah back on the college football empires map

    by utefansince79
    2018-11-26 16:58:16

No one posted this yet, but Utah is back on this map winning a modest amount of land that BYU had previously won from UMass.

    https://www.sbnation.com/college-football /2018/11/26/18111353/college-football-empi res-map-championship-weekend

Could win a LOT of land if we beat the Huskies on Friday.

    Free upgrade to lower bowl

    by utefansince79
    2018-11-01 07:55:02

Received email a short time ago saying they will be curtaining off the upper bowl for the first 3 hoops games (like they did for the NIT last year). There was a link to let me upgrade my 2 seats (in the nosebleed sections) to lower bowl seats for those games (and they are VERY good seats).

Sure the games are not the most attractive ones on the schedule, but it will be nice to go down and sit close to the court.

The score is misleading. That was simply a beat down.

Great resiliency of the team after getting down 14-0. They score 34 unanswered points after that and cruised.

    Pac12 hoops schedule partially out

Utes play everyone except the Oregon schools in Salt Lake, and we don't travel to the Bay Area.

Massive upset last night. I see that in women's hoops Mississippi State knocked off UConn on an OT buzzer beater.

    by utefansince79
    2017-04-01 07:43:50

UConn is simply on a whole other level compared to any of the other programs. They had won 111 straight games, most by blowouts, and beat MSU last year in the tourney by 60.

This is sort of like when UCLA finally lost to NC State in the mid 70s in the semi-final.

    Andre's final game?

    by utefansince79
    2016-05-13 09:28:57

Watched parts of the Thunder-Spurs game last night, and Popovich had Andre Miller and Tim Duncan (both recently turned 40) play most of the 4th quarter. Andre had a few rebounds and assists as well as a put-back basket (missed a couple of shots in the closing minute).

Announcers were focused of course on it possibly being Duncan's last game, but it could likely be the last appearance in an NBA uniform for one of the better point guards to ever play in the league (and one of the very best players to ever play for the Utes.)

    by utefansince79

SEVEN Pac-12 teams in the tourney and every one will wear the white (yellow perhaps for the Ducks) in their first game.

In comparison, ZERO at-large bids for the rest of the west (not even San Diego State and St. Mary's got inn).

    2017 NCAA tourney tix

    by utefansince79
    2016-03-03 09:37:05

I received email (imagine all season ticket holders did) with an offer to buy tickets for the early rounds of the 2017 tourney in the Jazz Arena. (Vivint whatever)

Had the same offer back a few years ago but declined, mainly because the location of the seats won't be known until much later and I don't want to spend lots of money for seats that might be up in the top rows of the upper bowl directly behind the basket. Wondering for those that did take up that offer then what sort of seats they were eventually assigned.

    Muss costumes

    by utefansince79
    2016-02-11 12:40:56

Last night from my seat up in AA I could see a few costumes in the MUSS. One of them was a dinosaur, the other (in blue) was something I couldn't quite identify. Kept on hoping the big screen might give us a closer look, but they kept on showing the reptilian costume.

Any closer able to figure out what the other one was?

Good showing by the MUSS last night (for a weekday game). Fun to have the students creating atmosphere again the last few seasons.

    Back to the future II

    by utefansince79
    2015-10-21 13:55:57

Imagine you're a Utah fan living in 1985 and get transported to Oct 21 2015.

You're coming from a time when your team is struggling, usually has a half empty stadium, and your bitter rival is coming off a year where they won what many feel was a lucky and rather dubious national title. You find that in this future time your team is ranked #3, getting first place votes in the polls, leading its division in the PAC12 by two games, and on the way to the LA Coliseum to play Southern Cal. USC isn't a one-and-done body bag game, but rather a team we play every other year at home. We've sold out an expanded Rice-Eccles 35 or so games in a row with waiting lists to get season tickets. Your team has beaten that arch rival 9 of the last 12 games they have played.

Meanwhile that rival is on the outside of the big conferences, unranked, and is getting ready to host "Wagner" and can't sell out its stadium without essentially giving away tickets.

(Better yet imagine a BYU fan from 1985 being transported to today's date)

Either fan would be rather surprised.

Article indicates there's a good chance he plays tonight. My guess is if he gets in the game it will be off of the bench and he may perhaps just see a few minutes few minutes of action.

It will be good to see him back with the squad entering the conference battles.

    Trap game tonight?

    by utefansince79
    2014-12-30 09:30:18

The Running Utes have one last pre-season game tonight against NAIA Carroll College. The only thing I know about them is they are 10-3 this season so they are used to winning.

Washington's loss to Stony Brook, Cal's loss to Bakersfield, and Oregon being forced to OT by Cal-Irvine, (as well as Zona losing in the Thomas & Mack) show you can't overlook any opponent.

The Utes should be able to easily win this game, but need to show up ready to battle a confident opponent.

A bit off today's topic but RSL just lost both Wingert and Grabavoy to the expansion draft.

    by utefansince79
    2014-12-10 14:10:00

We could only protect 11 and had to leave all the others vulnerable.

Jason Kries (coach of the new NY team) took both of them.

Will miss both of these players. Both are hard working and had been with RSL for a very long time.

    What an enjoyable evening

    by utefansince79
    2013-12-15 07:50:08

Have to credit the crowd (especially the students). The last few visits the Zoobs have taken the building over and 2 years ago there was more blue than red in the student section. Even more disheartening than losing decisively to BYU was listening to the visiting fans completely drown out the home fans and feeling like I was cheering for the road team.

Last night the MUSS and rest of the crowd really brought it and drowned out the idiots up in section FF. Every time the visitors started a chant the Ute fans started their own cheer and overwhelmed them.

A few minutes into the game, Rose had to call an early timeout, the crowd gave a rousing ovation as the teams went to their benches, and I (like Larry K afterwards) got a bit choked up. It's been far too long since the Hunty had that atmosphere.

Hopefully we can keep it up. If we can create that kind of environment against teams like Oregon, Arizona, UCLA, Colorado, and other Pac-12 powers, we'll make our building a very tough place to visit and by inspiring our team and rattling the opponent, we can help our team beat some quality opponents.

So what is it with Zoobs and stuffing ballot boxes?

    by utefansince79
    2013-09-19 09:24:39

They're doing this 'contest' at my section of the office down in Lehi where all the fans are supposed to wear BYU or Utah shirts to show which team they prefer. Now several of the BYU fans are offering to bring extra shirts (likely the $5 ones with vivint on the back) for non-fans to wear and are offering candy bars or other snacks if they do.

Stupid Zoobs. Glad we don't play them for the next couple of years.

Exciting ending in the CBI tourney involving a former conference foe

    by utefansince79
    2013-03-19 21:36:53

Caught the last minute or so on something called "Axis TV". Wyoming hosting Lehigh. Lehigh made a layup with 5 seconds left to go up by 2, the Cowboys came down court without calling a time-out, hit a trey from the corner at the buzzer to win by one.

All the best to Dubois, Washburn, and Martin in their future endeavors. Looking forward to seeing Loveridge, Taylor, Tucker, Olson, Seymour, Dean, and others return next year to keep this momentum going. We have a lot of promise in these younger players and the future looks bright.

Tonight the effort was there, but we had no legs left and seemed fatigued physically and mentally against a strong Oregon team.

    by utefansince79
    2013-03-14 21:29:28

With 5 seconds left in the team's season and in his career, Dubois hits a shot that I can't find an appropriate adjective for and Utah sails to victory in the OT.

If anything, this late season surge should give the returning players enormous confidence coming back next season.

Opening win for the Good Guys

    by utefansince79
    2013-03-04 07:27:35

Real Salt Lake opened up their 2013 season with a 2-0 road win against San Jose last night. Two goals by Saborio with assists coming from Plata (an Ecuadorian newcomer) and Beckerman.

Very satisfying given the Quakes owned us last year winning all 3 matches with 2 winning goals coming in stoppage time and us having 3 red cards in the 2 road games.

And this was with us having sold off Olave, Johnson, and Espindola during the off season and having Morales, Borchers, and Wingert unavailable due to injuries.

Nice way to start the year.

I'm a Saints fan but must agree that our fans need to get over it.

Lady Utes pulled it off. HUGE win. Now head to Oregon to play 2 more top ten teams on the road.

Like many well-known announcers, Walton is hated by many, and liked by others.

I can understand that a team comprised of hungry young men may not be interested in some elegant gourmet meal.
