A picture from Freaky Girl and Mr Freaky Girl from Rick Majerus Funeral Mass

    by Diehard Ute
    2012-12-08 17:43:13

Freaky asked me to post the picture below.

As you can see, there is quite the collection of amazing men that passed through the JMHC and Rick Majerus' school of life, and they gathered outside after the services today for this picture. You can truly see how many people Rick touched, I'm sure he would be proud.

Missing is Andre Miller who slipped out to catch a flight as soon as the Mass was concluded, Andre's mother was also in attendance.

Freaky told me it was the place to be today for a basketball person, Rick truly influenced many people.

    Larry K came walking

    by Diehard Ute
    2011-11-15 15:15:39

Up the stairs last night about 45 minutes before tipoff. He stopped at every fan in those sections, shook our hands, thanked us for coming and talked to each person for a minute.

The team obviously has a long way to go, but it was nice to see Larry engage fans. Having sat along the aisle the coaches use for over 30 years the last coach to do that was Majerus.

Question on the score change ruling

    by Diehard Ute
    2011-09-12 16:28:26

If I'm reading the PAC-12's stance correctly, they are stating any substitution foul is a dead ball foul.

So, any team could have their entire team run on the field, score and just be penalized on the PAT or kickoff.

Seems rather silly. Play with 105 guys and score!

Seems this should be an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty to keep that from happening

    Chris Hill on basketball facilities

    by Diehard Ute
    2011-04-04 19:11:13

Chris Hill spoke to KALL after Krysko.

They specifically mentioned the new football office etc and asked about basketball

Dr. Hill stated they are in the process of upgrading the floors where they practice now

He said they do have plans to build a basketball practice facility however the new campus recreation center needs to be completed first as that will free up the land north of the JMHC needed for the project

Just read ESPN's BCS Bash Chat from today....

    by Diehard Ute
    2010-11-01 21:39:48

....and it had a glaring indication of just how little the 'experts' pay attention to things, and how they spin them.

At some point during the chat, Mark Schlabach started to bash the Pac-10, stating it wasn't as good as the "West Coast folks think it is".

That led to a discussion of schedules, and the fact that you can't fault teams for their conference schedule. Schlabach went on to say that's why Utah, TCU and Boise are even still being talked about, because people ignore their conference schedules, but the out of conference schedules is what matters.

Now, all well and good, but then Schlabach said the following

"Oregon and Stanford have played soft schedules, no question. Cardinal couldn't have known that Notre Dame and Wake Forest would be so bad when they scheduled them"

Now, at no point in the chat did he once say that about Utah's schedule, instead he took every chance he had to say "Utah doesn't play anyone".

So, Stanford gets a pass for their's because Notre Dame was expected to be better.....but that same logic doesn't apply to Utah?

I guess the bottom line is this. The 'experts' in the world of sports are just people with opinions and biases. Their 'expert' opinions are about as real as the WWE.

    by Diehard Ute

One just told me that the 'unknown future' was exciting.

Also told me that Utah would have done the same thing if they hadn't fallen into the PAC as the money is too good to pass up And that as a Utah fan I should be happy at this news as it will allowthe rivalry to continue.

Yeah an independent/WCC team really gets my juices flowing, that's who I would pick for my rival.

Flashing lights: Move over and slow down

    by Diehard Ute
    2010-01-31 15:22:18

Just want to remind anyone I can to please move as far over as you can and slow down if you come across flashing lights while driving.

A UHP Trooper was hit by a vehicle last night while at a crash and sustained very serious injuries. This one hit a bit closer to home as I was trained by a member of her family.

She is the second UHP Trooper seriously injured this year by someone who hit them on an accident scene. I've almost been hit twice. Please pass the word on and remind those you're riding with, my collegues and I would like to go home at the end of our shift.

I'm a college sports fan first and foremost, but at least pro sports....

    by Diehard Ute
    2009-02-11 13:42:31

...has something that college sports can't get right.

Everyone gets a shot to knock the king off the mountain.

I'm sitting here reading all of Water Lizard's posts, and it's become painfully obvious what is wrong with college sports.

The schools that have reached the top (be it by earning it, or just being located in the right geographic region) don't want to have to fight for their "title". They don't want to win it on the field, they don't want to even have to have it be challenged.

They have the belt, but they never really want to fight it in a fair match, they want to stack it in their favor.

The NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL champs have to put their title up every year, and they have to put it up in front of everyone in the league.

In College? You just tell everyone you're too good for them, refuse to play them, then tell them at the end of the season that they didn't play you thus they're not as good...yeah, that's what sports is all about.
