Looking at their season results, it looks as though they have had quite an up-and-down year. Lost to Akron (really?), barely beat Rutgers and Nebraska (two bad teams), but beat Michigan St. and Wisconsin, and barely lost to Michigan.

I don't know what to expect.

I come with an apology at a lot of negativity in the first half. Utah played wretchedly.

    by 77ute

But what an amazing comeback. Credit to the coaches and players for digging deep and finding the heart. Hat's off to BYU for a strong effort in the first half.

Utah just allowed an inferior opponent to come into its stadium and march to a 20-0 halftime lead.

    by 77ute
    2018-11-24 21:44:02

They were outgained by a below-average offense with a true freshman QB 247-88. I don't want to hear anything about this game being meaningless or that we already won the PAC-12 South. That was as sorry an excuse for 30 minutes of play I've seen out of the Utes in years. BYU was well prepared for this game, and Utah looked like it had never played in a D1 game.

Give BYU credit. Its defense is dialed in, it had no turnovers, and believe it had zero penalties (one defensive holding penalty that Utah declined).

Perhaps one could say this game ultimately doesn't matter. I just can't stomach this type of effort, and I certainly can't take losing to BYU, especially in this way ... at home no less.

I'm very curious to see what kind of team comes out in the second half. But you could tell from the moment BYU recovered that ridiculous fumble on the punt that this wasn't Utah's day.

Washington State putting up 54 on Arizona ... at the half. Mike Leach sure can coach an offense. If Utah does indeed make it to the title game, I think I'd rather face Washington. Better matchup.

Well, this season is effectively over. Time to move on from Whit.

    by 77ute
    2018-09-29 21:10:40

With Stanford, USC, Oregon, and Arizona State still coming up, I'm not sure Utah even gets to six wins this season. Considering the hype surrounding this team in the summer, this would be a huge disappointment.

It's the same crap every year: an inaccurate QB who can't make good decisions; receivers who can't get open or catch the ball; stupid penalties; an ultra-conservative coach who plays not to lose; questionable play calling. What makes anyone think this is going to change under Whit?

Of course, today the defense (which actually did a great job for three-fourths of the second half) gave up 450 yards passing and did a horrendous job on an 89-yard pass.

I'm tired of hearing every summer the "could this be the year Utah wins the South?" talk. I have no faith it'll happen.

I was stoked for this season, but it's shaping up to be a disaster.

    by 77ute
    2018-09-15 23:52:37

Losing to the No. 10 team in the nation at home by 14 isn't horrible, but the way Utah played offensively sure was. The drops, the inaccurate passing, the penalties, the turnovers, the assortment of absurd miscues. It's embarrassing.

The defense gave up a few big runs but played well. UW has a great scheme and a quarterback, a running back, and wide receivers to execute it. Consider Utah had three turnovers and did next to nothing with the ball, the D was stellar outside of a few plays.

But once again, the offensive ineptitude is the story.

Whit knows this but can do nothing to change it. Why? I wish I knew. Clearly, he has no eye for talent in an offensive coordinator, and that may lead to his downfall. What exactly has Troy Taylor done? The offense is worse than it was under Roderick, sadly. All the talk in the offseason of "the most talented team since '08" is a joke.

Setting Covey up for shot after shot is perfect example of awful play calling, abysmal recognition, and blatant disregard for a player's safety. That's on Whit, Taylor, and Huntley.

After seven years and one game into the PAC-12, it's clear Utah won't win a division title with Whit at the helm.

    2018-09-15 16:49:26

BYU beats Arizona in week one. Everyone thinks BYU is "back." Turns out Arizona sucks, so the win is not nearly as big a deal. Week two, BYU looks bad against a Cal team that is currently playing a ho-hum game against Idaho St. Week three, BYU wins at Wisconsin, who didn't look anything close to a No. 6 team to me.

I wonder what type of Utah team will show up tonight?

I'm rewatching the game from yesterday. We've deservedly criticized the offense, but the run defense was astonishingly poor in the first half. Very disappointing to see huge holes and several 7-, 8-, 9-plus-yard runs.

    2018-09-09 21:21:55

I don't know if it was due to lack of effort or focus, or what was going on. Not a good sign going forward.
