Today is the 75th Anniversary of the US and Allied invasion of Nazi-held Europe. The Russians had been slogging it out on the Eastern Front for years, with massive loss of life. But the blow that knocked Hitler to his knees was the invasion of Normandy in France and the push toward Berlin.
I have known veterans of this invasion, while the last two died over the last year, both in their upper 90s. I want to acknowledge them today, and thank them for their sacrifice. Moreover, thank all veterans of that war, particularly those who gave their life for a free world.
