Yeah. They wind them up at Promentory in a brand new machine.

Finally dragged the boys and girls up north into using 1980s technology. Uses an HTPB propellant, too. I don’t have any insight into the nozzle. Sure seems to be a structural failure but the video has what might be a flare in the plume just prior to the exit cone shredding. Might just be the cone on the far side of the shot letting go first. The best thing about not being involved is having to work with the propulsion engineering VP. All fluff and little substance. I first met him in the late 80s when he was a t NASA. Never been a fan, but I’m sure the charts will be snazzy.

Rocker Ute icon NEW: It boggles the mind that that amount of money can be spent on something that is obviously not commercially viable. It just underscores how so many truly wealthy people had a massive dose of luck. (nm)

pangloss icon NEW: Did you see the Osceola static test. I wonder what changes they made to the Shuttle nozzle. Of all the things that could go wrong, I wouldn't have expected the exit cone. Thoughts? (nm)

HoopUte icon NEW: I hadn’t seen that. I guess I’m glad I withdrew from the Chief Engineer bid on that project and chose to retire instead. I’m too old for that failure investigation $#!+. (nm)
