Not sure how many of you have heard of the Dirty Kanza.

It's a gravel/road race hybrid in Ea/Central Kansas. I'm not doing it, at least not this year.

Prior to this year, I had heard of it, but never really gave it much thought. Then this year progressed, and I have worked to get my bike company off the ground (BM me if you want info, but that's not the focus of this post), I've looked more into the DK.

It's only been around since 2006. It started out much like LOTOJA did way back when, just a group of friends who set out to see if they could do something. Some of the interesting stats, at least to me, they're rider capped at 2500 riders. The longest race is 350 miles, and starts this Friday. The majority of the riders will do a 200 or 100 mile loop near Emporia, KS.

I guess, what I'm getting to is this strikes me as fun, and something to get excited about. As an ex-road and mtn bike racer, it's been hard for me to ride for the sake of riding. I love and need goals, especially to ride towards.

So I suppose, I have something to shoot for. Not next years version, it takes time to build your body up for the rigors of racing. But 2021 I'd like to take a crack at it. I'll even do it on one of my bikes, whether a custom steel that I build for myself (yes welded and designed by yours truly), or one of my carbon (imported) gravel/endurance bikes.

Anyway, just had to get ideas flowing and this seemed a good place. There are gravel grinders all over the West. I hope to see some in the East, but they're hard to set up with very little that's not paved any more.

So, if you're curious about the DK, here's a link.
