a recap

Nothing profound, just a recitation.

Zuckerberg had a utopian vision for Facebook that it would 1) be an app to enable the free expression of ideas constrained only by an objective and complete;y neutral algorithm, 2) be an almost perfect vehicle to deliver advertising to billions of people and 3) given 1 and 2 it would generate mountains of ad revenue at a small cost.

He was arguably correct on all three.

He failed see the risk of malign players taking advantage of his app. The Russians, for God knows what reason, wanted to throw rocks in the gears of Western Democracies. They backed Brexit by sending focused messages to specific groups. It worked. As a result, the UK is suffering and it won't get better any time soon.

Brexit was the Russian's petri dish for the 2012 presidential election. Their interference via social media and cyber espionage swung the election to Trump. As a result, the US is suffering and it won't get better any time soon.
