I find it problematic when governments intervene to stem the free flow of thoughts and information, the good and the bad. The bigger issue here is the lack of critical thinking on the part of our citizenry.
The willingness of many to accept what they see on social media at face value is cringeworthy, and that makes our republic susceptible to these influences. How many folks do we see on this message board on both sides of the aisle that try to make their case with memes or cutting and pasting short twitterbursts? I know there have been cases where we have even sourced some of the memes posted here to Russian agencies.
I wish there was a civics class people would have to pass in order to vote, but I know that will never happen. Our own president likely wouldn't be able to vote if that were so.
