I used to be able to find galvanized water lines using copper tubing in a divining rod-like technique.

I know it worked on steel, but I've never tried it on plastic pipes. The physics of how that could work never made sense to me, but I learned about it from my dad as they were using it out at Thiokol to find water lines that weren't mapped out very well out there. No less of a technical wizard than Dr. Sauer from Bacchus also attests to the validity of this method from his days on the farm in Washington.

I would have found the line for free.
