I'm going to guess that your post is tongue-in-cheek, but in my scripture study yesterday, I read a verse in the Book of Mormon (2 Nephi 1:7) that kind of got me thinking along these same lines. "If it so be that they shall serve him according to the commandments which he hath given, it shall be a land of liberty unto them; wherefore, they shall never be brought down into captivity; if so, it shall be because of iniquity; for if iniquity shall abound cursed shall be the land for their sakes, but unto the righteous it shall be blessed forever."

In short, if we are the God-fearing nation that we claim to be, we need to do a better job following His commandments (which, if one believes in the Bible, falls into the categories of loving God and loving our fellow planet-inhabitants). Failure to do so will result in no good end for us.

So I guess my answer to your question is that it is time for those of us who believe in such things to do some introspection and decide if we are part of the problem, and if we are part of the problem, we need to fix ourselves. And even if one does not believe in God or this life being part of a larger plan, being a better humanist and trying to be kinder to those around us never hurt anyone.
