Why shouldn't revenues be subject to taxation? Joel Osteen's church takes in over $90 million a year, and only around $1 million goes to missionary outreach. Who knows how much of that is actual humanitarian work, and how much goes to conversion . | Utefans.Net

The rest basically goes to growing the church, which ultimately means more money for that institution. Why should we essentially subsidize any efforts to recruit followers for any faith organization? If they want to bring people to their god, regardless of whether or not they profit, let them pay their share of taxes.

As for the argument that this will open the doors to churches jumping into politics, we're well past that anyway. The religious right commandeered the GOP decades ago, so we might as well officially drop the veil.

o NEW: "Apparently, Equality, in this instance, is displaying the reality that those who 'believe' get to discriminate against whomever they choose..." So, we want to exclude and discriminate but don't hold that against us. It's time to tax the church.

Red Don icon NEW: And donations shouldn't be tax deductible. You can't claim a donation to a lobbying firm. Same thing. (nm)

480ute icon NEW: I'm almost always using "church" in debate to refer to any religious institution, so I assume that's the case here. I understand how it can be muddy, since it is technically a biblical term, so I apologize for any confusion.
