I have a question for college basketball fans.

Is the carousel of players totally abnormal, or is it just a little bit out of the ordinary? Judging by the comments about transfers here I assume it's way out of line, but we tend to overreact so maybe it's not that dire? I followed college basketball a lot more closely fifteen or twenty years ago, but only catch Utah games (and the occasional March Madness matchup) nowadays, so forgive my ignorance.

College football has changed a ton just in the past few years with regard to transfer and eligibility rules, so I imagine that basketball has transformed a bit too, but Utah's constant outflux seems awfully excessive to this casual observer. Calling for a coach's head isn't really my responsibility or right, but I have to ask what the hell is going on?

Rocker Ute icon NEW: It isn't normal to years past. But there also wasn't the transfer portal and some other things I think have an effect on that. So I think we are all perplexed that this is an issue with Larry versus just the new nature of college sports.

GUBA icon NEW: I don't know that it is that unusual. Saint Fatman of Maji had plenty of turnover in his day. Also there seems to be more turnover in college basketball in general these days not to mention so many one and done kids at the big name programs. Larry

pangloss icon NEW: I would like to know which transfers left with the tacit or overt support of Coach K and which ones left despite coach trying to get them to stay. (nm)

Utahraptor icon NEW: Perhaps Jayce is transferring because he feels he has a better chance to play in the NCAA tournament with Marquette than with Utah.

HoopUte icon NEW: Fair enough, but he’s in no small part responsible for Utah’s performance. He’s definitely had his chances to shine and has only been average. (nm)

o NEW: Marquette is losing the Hauser brothers, two of its best players and top big men, to transfers, so there may be more minutes available (nm)
