Lots of ways to look at it.

Is it healthy for a child to attend a church that condemns his/her openly gay parents? The unintended consequence of the old policy, may have been better in the long term parent/child relationship.

I have never understood why someone who is gay, and has come to terms with their sexuality would want to be a member of a fundamentalist religion that condemns homosexuals or have thier children be a member.

But its good, in the sense that it suggests that perhaps God is becoming less homophobic. Then again, Dubai. Two steps forward, 1 step back.

tarheelio icon NEW: Denying membership to homosexuals is one thing, but excluding their children just seems mean and punitive.

scratch icon NEW: It certainly appeared that way, even if it was designed to avoid strife and conflict in same-sex families. The new policy clearly still has that goal, but seeks to accomplish it in a much better way. (nm)

o NEW: What can I say, he’s a fickle god. Tomorrow he may decide to bring 8-track players, pet rocks and lava lamps back. Some of you guys who are stuck in the 1970s will be happy about that. (nm)

o NEW: When I said "a church" I was speaking broadly about conservative religions, not just "the church." I do know there are many openly gay Catholics both active and inactive. (short)

Rocker Ute icon NEW: There are openly gay members of the church (albeit very few)... I don't know of anyone beyond the 90s who submitted to conversion therapy (I'm saying I don't know anyone , I know it occurred).
