And to add insult to injury...

The college system pushes students into mountains of debt subsidized by federal taxpayers driving up an artificial demand.

The artificial demand in the college system pushed wealthy cretins to push money into criminal and corrupt people's pockets. Again, I'm fine with them being punished, but it's a shame that the money they paid to the criminals could have went to the universities with little to no impact on the social fabric of society.

The college system coupled with the wealthy cretins pushed a federal agency to spend a ton of tax payer money on investigating and prosecuting this crime.

And now, the same college system, coupled with the wealthy cretins, coupled with the federal agency investigation and prosecution is going to push a bunch of college money into the pockets of scummy lawyers and opportunistic 'victims'.

I'm sorry, but I just can't get on board that all this money wouldn't have been better off put to a productive use somewhere else. All of which would have happened if it was simply legal for people to pay extra to get their kids into the schools of their choice.

Disclaimer: I don't believe the world is a zero sum game. I don't believe that IF rich people get more everyone else gets less. I believe that because the countries with the most rich people tend to have the wealthiest poor people. Am I wrong?

MinnesotaUte icon NEW: Stated another way, its possible that if all wealthy people could buy their kids into schools of their choice, the schools might expand and be able to actually accept MORE qualifying low income students.

Zeous icon NEW: Seems like your quibble is over the implementation detail. Is it possible to donate directly in exchange for admission of a child who does not otherwise qualify academically?
