Agreed with this, to a point. The value is in recruting pipelines effectively closed to many others. Doesn't mean there isn't talent in Utah schools. First year my law school admitted kids from Utah schools, half made law review.

The top student at Harvard in a generation was a University of Utah undergrad from Sandy.
How our original poster wants us to think about this is that we should be fine with keeping talented students cut off, and with letting people slip six figures to someone to buy a spot. That is unamerican.
