You're obviously unfamiliar with the concept...

...that there are different perspectives on many things in life, including slogans. Or you're unable to put yourself into the position of other people, at least for a moment, trying to understand their perspective. From your perspective, you're unable to see and understand how "Make America Great Again" can be racist.

But have you ever specifically thought about the word "again" in the context of this slogan? It is this specific word that makes the whole slogan imply a return to a bygone era when America was great, sometime in the past.

So, when exactly was that time? I somewhere read (but don't pin me down on that one) that a majority of older Americans answered that question with an era that happened to be the coming-of-age or young adult phase of their own life. Which would make sense from a psychological point of view as people tend to selectively push bad memories from their mind over time (the "back then, everything was better!" effect).

But is it so difficult to see how the idea of a return to a bygone America that was great at some point in the past (or as a catchy slogan, "Make America Great Again") sounds appealing to racists for whom America was great when white people ruled the land and black people knew their place, and everything was nicely segregated?

o NEW: The biggest issue I see with the Covington situation is media coverage.

Zeous icon NEW: No we're not. The media's entire power is in conjuring belief in the minds of their audience. Reject it and encourage others to reject it and we'll be fine. (nm)

o NEW: The mainstream narrative has manufactured that hat being racist. Very similar to the manufacturing of the Catholic Teenagers as harrassing innocent Native Americans. Meanwhile, the news will show the hat being attacked, not the other way around.
