What I'm saying is if they are here illegally they are probably being paid off the books and hence no income taxes and that is part of the 'burden' of having illegal people here. It seems to make sense to get them on the books and collect that.

Additionally, think of what it would do for border security if people could walk through the regular checkpoints with a visa in hand. People trying to cross the border where Trump wants a wall would be basically non-existent. At that point they likely WOULD primarily be criminal elements trying to get to the US undetected - but the vastly reduced strain on border patrol would mean we'd be far more likely to catch them.
EDIT: Also getting migrant laborers on the books would mean that unscrupulous US employers also couldn't abuse these people because they are here illegally, which certainly happens too.
Anyway, I think in general we are on the same page about this.
