The Secure Fence Act of 2006 authorized the use of more vehicle barriers, checkpoints and lighting to curb illegal immigration, and the use of advanced technology such as satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The act was widely viewed as the lesser of two evils since the House had just recently passed legislation that would make any undocumented immigrant a felon. That bill would have been more harmful, so Dems compromised on the one with less teeth, but demanded far more than just a wall. Even then, Trump has since called it a "nothing wall."

Not that any of this matters. What kind of #@%hole believes somebody just because they have an R or a D next to their name? Walls are antiquated technology, a huge waste of taxpayer dollars, and frankly a symbol of something that has taken on an ominous tone.
