Such a great movie. Anyway, I think there's pretty solid evidence that there are people intentionally trying to divide us, even if the individuals on the front lines are not fully aware of the role they play. That is the nature of compartmentalization, after all. The pattern matches tactics used in the conquest of countless nations throughout history.
The Romans were famous for it, dividing peoples whom they sought to conquer, which weakened defenses. After, they would divide the conquered tribes so that they would fight each other instead of the Romans.
"dīvide et imperā" - divide and rule
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divide_and_ rule
Divide and rule (from Latin dīvide et imperā), or divide and conquer, in politics and sociology is gaining and maintaining power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into pieces that individually have less power than the one implementing the strategy. The concept refers to a strategy that breaks up existing power structures, and especially prevents smaller power groups from linking up, causing rivalries and fomenting discord among the people. It was heavily used by British Empire in India and elsewhere.
