Rex Tillerson decides to open up...

From Politico: 'It violates the law': Tillerson vents about having to repeatedly push back against Trump.

Since I worked in the energy business for an oil & gas company, I knew Tillerson and have a ton of respect for not only him, but for ExxonMobil (the 800 pound gorilla in the market).

Disclaimer: I don't have to provide this warning, because this article is posted here in the Politics & War category. So if you are tired of current events, don't want to hear anything positive or negative about our president or the manner in which he runs the country, don't think the president has any impact on your life, then please accept my sincerely provided advice, move on, don't read, and don't remind us that this is a sports board.

I don't want to add a second politico post, so I edit this one to add this:

Also from Politico: What the Flynn Memo Tells Us About the Mueller Investigation.

So extrapolating from what Tillerson has said, it surprises me not that our president would do illegal stuff to get anything he wants done. And that includes becoming President of the United States.

In the case where some of you think I am some flaming liberal leftist who loves socialism, know that in the last election, I voted for a Republican for governor of my state. I vote like that in every election, some GOP, some Democrats. I am not a party ticket kinda voter.

But I insist on reasonable folks in office who want to server their constituents, have a passion for public service, and are interested in durable solutions regardless of where they come from. What I hate is what we see going on in Wisconsin, North Carolina, and a host of other states. I loathe "the end justifies the means" logic in politics, regardless of who does it. I despise serial lying and distortion by politicians to intentionally deceive the electorate. Voter suppression and gerrymandering is just wrong in my view, even if both parties have a history of it, or worse justify it because they control state legislatures. From my seat most of these types of rigging the system now are at the hands of the GOP. I don't need a lecture about how the Democrats started it. I care about now and going forward.

Finally today, I want to post this article from the Guardian: Why we stopped trusting elites.

I've been fascinated by this erosion in public trust as we have seen in approval rating for Congress and for some time. I believe that the deep and growing lack of trust in all of our institutions (e.g., Pac-12) gives us leaders like our current president. In my 10 years living in the Philippines, I saw the folks in that country vote over and over again for tough guys because they believed their rhetoric that they would solve all the ills. Duterte is just the most recent example. We are on the same path in the good ol' U.S.A.

Article Except: If a world where everyone has their own truth-tellers sounds dangerously like relativism, that’s because it is. But the roots of this new and often unsettling “regime of truth” don’t only lie with the rise of populism or the age of big data. Elites have largely failed to understand that this crisis is about trust rather than facts – which may be why they did not detect the rapid erosion of their own credibility.
