For many years Sears in Canada was a separate company. It was first formed as a JV between Simpson's department store and Sears, Roebuck & Co. My grandmother worked in the Simpson-Sears catalog pickup department for many years.

One of the things she learned was how to expertly wrap packages which always amazed me. I could never quite figure out how her Christmas gifts were all done so perfectly and fastened with a single small piece of tape.

Eventually the Simpson's name was dropped but Sears Canada remained a separate and very successful entity. Ultimately Sears Holding wound up buying out Sears Canada and the decline set in as the years of neglect piled up. The focus on siphoning ever increasing amounts of cash out of the company relegated Sears Canada to the same fate as other Canadian retail stalwarts like Eaton's and Woodward's who followed the same short sighted path.

Sears in Canada always had a restaurant and my grandmother loved to go for lunch there after a Saturday morning shopping trip. It is kind of sad that this once proud and successful company has gone by the wayside. At one time Sears Canada occupied a spot somewhere between Kohl's and Dillards and was a longtime favorite for many people.
