The second rule change benefits us enormously...

Whitt has shown no hesitation to play true freshmen, especially as we're getting more & more talented kids who are ready to play right out of HS. (Sometimes kids just get in for special teams, but they're playing.)

So, a lot of kids who've gotten snaps in games could still redshirt, which gives the kids a break, and gives the coaches the ability to let kids get into games, get their feet wet in game situations, let them have a taste of what it takes at this level... and still let them come back with four years of eligibility.

Or, a different scenario: true freshmen who aren't quite ready to play early, if they work their asses off in camp, in film study and in the weight room, could play games late in the year without "burning" their redshirt year.

This is really big, especially for Utah, as our recruiting gets better.
