That's a good question. Sometimes he lies for an end and other times it seems like he lies out of habit. Sometimes he fabricates statistics and values to support his preconceived conclusions. It's kind of fascinating, in a perverse way.

As for part two of your question, I used to volunteer at SSB when I was in college, helping people fill out loan/grant applications. Better than half had no clue, and at least 1 in 5 thought I was joking at first. (nm)

You would have. It's a check-box on the Utah driver's license application. If you choose not to register, or claim you've already registered, the system will check that and if the SSN isn't on file, it'll deny your application. (nm)
