1) Pregame: Brandon Taylor was Bill Reilly's pregame interview: Bill asked him about defending Tyler Haws, in the question was the implication that Taylor wouldn't be on Haws much. Brandon complimented Haws as a player that was great at using screens and change of pace to get open... Then he said that he would be on Tyler like "White on rice."
I thought to myself, "noble thoughts but I don't think I want to see a steady diet of Taylor on Haws." Boy was I wrong the decision to have Taylor chase Haws was a great one and Brandon did a great job of running around multiple screens on every BYU possession.
2) Postgame Krystkowiak: Larry said that on gameday the staff decided to switch-up some of the initial defensive match-ups putting "some length" (Delon) on Carlino (and Wright blocking his first jumpshot may have effected him, who knows) and Taylor on Haws (because they thought it was better to give up inches and the staff thought Brandon was quick and strong enough to follow Haws around all the screens BYU sets for him.
3) Postgame Loveridge: Jordan made two comments I thought were interesting.
A ) The Utes really emphasized transition defense all week, the team felt that if they limited BYU's transition scoring they could guard BYU pretty well in half-court. I would not have been confident of that before the game, but that opinion proved to be valid. Jordan said (and I agree) that you could see the frustration BYU build in the Cougars as they struggled to score.
B ) Jordan was asked about the energy Dallin Bachynski played with and he chuckled before answering" "Some people really don't like BYU and for some reason the Bachynski family really don't like BYU. Dalin is a physical player anyway and in this game he was really 'a Man' out there.
