Regarding Our "Obsession" With BYU

Personally, I think this whole arguement about "who is obsessed with who" (regarding Utah and BYU) is very adolescent, but then rivalries get that way. To be honest, I think there are some very good reasons why BYU would be a subject of discussion often on this board...

1. They are our traditional arch-rival.
2. We compete against them in the same league.
3. We compete against them for recruits.
4. We are in the same media market (how many times do you cringe when you hear the phrase "the Cougar leader" on the radio?).
5. We work with them, go to church with them, our kids play with them... and there's just no escaping them. (Not that we really try.)
6. They are arrogant, self-righteous, judgemental jerks (if you buy into the stereotype) that easily get under our skin.

Conversely, there are also valid reasons that Utah would be a subject of discussion on the BYU boards. In fact, you could just mirror the list above, except that #6 would say, "drunken, amoral, hedonistic, and low-class jerks." The truth is, both schools will ALWAYS talk about the other. BYU fans like to deny this -- they think they are above such purely regional things -- but they are not. Debating about "who is obsessed with who" is really an irrelevant point -- we are both obsessed as much as any good rival should be.
