This time about next year's football schedule.
The Trib has an article today quoting Val Hale as being displeased with
the 2000 football schedule (which was mostly arranged for TV reasons).
He says that BYU "appealed" to the MWC make ESPN change the Mississipi
State game to another time. It says BYU even held the rest of the MWC scheduling
up for a month because they wanted to change their game with Air Force
to a different day. Well folks, here is another example of why BYU is so
disliked. They whine about the basketball schedule (incidently, another
article has them lamenting the fact they don't play for 9 days before playing
Utah), they whine about the football schedule, they whine about everything.
They try and use their status as the conference heavy to get their way.
There are real reasons to dislike BYU outside the players they put on the
court. Their administration is underhanded and unfair to the other teams
in the MWC.
Objectively, BYU does deserve credit for scheduling
top teams. Also, BYU will be on national TV 9 times (ESPN, ABC or ESPN
regional). I'm not sure next year is the year they want to have all that
exposure. I think they'll have a tough time finishing .500. One thing is
for sure -- if they do have a great season, they will earn it.
