"It's funny, but I think I was more excited for last week's game against SUU than tomorrow's [game against BYU]. Probably because of the first game of the season thing, but I just want to get it over with a win and no injuries and then look forward to SJSU and then, of course, USC."

"You are assuming that an internal investigation and a stacked grand jury finding that an officer did not act criminally actually means the officer was objectively not guilty. The real problem is that the system is set up at every level to ensure that officers go unpunished, regardless of the officer's guilt. Undeniably guilty police officers are regularly found "not guilty" by a system carefully designed at every level to do just that. Remember when we all saw video of the Rodney King beating and the officers were all found "not guilty" in spite of 100% undeniable proof that they were guilty of all charges? The feds had to step in and put Officer Koon in jail for civil rights violations since they couldn't retry him for the crimes he undeniably committed. The criminal justice system is completely broken. Police are never held accountable, innocent people are far too frequently convicted, and criminals are disproportionately punished based on ethnicity and socio-economic status."

"We do not live in a world of absolutes. It is possible (and hopefully likely) to be as equally appalled by the actions towards cops as the actions by cops. It is possible to be 100% supportive of law enforcement, but also 100% against the extremely small subset of power-mad a**holes who feel that carrying a badge gives them unquestioned authority to beat down (at best) or gun down (at worst) anyone who doesn't immediately comply with them in exactly the manner they want. I'm saddened and more a little bit horrified at where we are as a country today."

"The "We're not in the PAC 12 or Big 12 because of religious bigotry" is pure BS. BYU is a teaching institution set up primarily for LDS youth to meet mates. Next to no research is done there, and it's not a cultural fit for the PAC. Every PAC 12 school is either a Carnegie I research institution or a member of the AAU. BYU will never be either. BYU was never considered as a candidate for expansion by the PAC, primarily because Utah was a much better fit, and there was no way the PAC was going to take two schools from the same market. The Big 12 was interested in BYU, and came sniffing around during the expansion boom in 2010-11, but BYU came to the table with a list of demands and completely overplayed their hand, turning the Big 12 off. Shortly after that the Big 12 added TCU and more importantly West Virginia - with WVU in the fold geography was added to the list of cons associated with adding anybody in the future west of Lubbock, TX. Blaming it on religious bigotry is a cop out and ignores the realities that a) BYU is a terrible fit for the PAC 12 and b) BYU severely overestimated their value when the Big 12 came poking around. For BYU fans it's just easier to skip any sort of inward reflection and ignore these realities, and blame their lot in life on the religious bigotry of others."

"I'm no longer worried about Utah winning this Saturday. My seven year old grandson went outside with his football and played the Utah/BYU game for over three hours. He came back inside and said that Utah won 276 to 0. That's a bit too close for me, but I will take it."

"Obviously all of Utah's recruiting classes are better [than BYU's]. You are grading the classes before they enter the schools. Try grading them after they leave the school and enter the NFL to see which is better. Our coaches can spot a two star recruit that will some day be the highest paid safety in the league. Your coaches can spot a DB that will blow the roof off of Vegas and be to church the next morning."

"It's a little crazy how many potential NFL players are on our D. Off the top of my head, I'd say Carter, Norris, Paul, Lotulelei, Dimick, Fanaika, and Hatfield (provided that he's reinstated) have proven themselves good enough to play at the next level. I also suspect that Brian Allen and Reggie Porter will show us some big things."

"Find a way, that's all that matters Villanova beat terrible Creighton on the road by 4 in the final minute. Virginia edged dreadful Wake Forest by 1 at Wake. Duke went to OT at VTech who has a losing record. Point is, it doesn't matter who you are, conference road games can be a struggle. Props to Utah for getting it done for a big win tonight."

"If we were still under the BCS Alabama would've destroy FSU in the title game and ESPN would continue to hail them as the second coming of Jesus. Looks like the playoffs are working. To Hell with Bama and the Mighty SEC West. Arky and A&M (a combined 5-11 in conference) are the only post season victors. I'd take the PAC12 South over the SEC West any day."

    By: Hammer, November 8, 2014

"The best weather to pull an upset at Rice Eccles is cold, but not too cold, and dry with low humidity. The cold desert air combined with the elevation makes unaccustomed lungs burn and the ball slippery to the touch - see Cody Kessler on last drive, 3rd down. Forecast for Saturday game time ought to be low 40's and dry air. When you walk onto the field, the conditions look benign enough but they can fool those who haven't practiced in them. Expect to see Oregon make several turnovers and walk away with a loss."
