A bunch of people were asked to film short sections of Star Wars and the results were edited into this feature length film. I wonder how many people have sat down and watched the whole thing:
After reading about the whole "back to the res" deal, I am wondering if we could pull off some sort of Ute tribe appreciation day at a game this fall (similar to operations sombrero, red zone, etc)
by thirtyfour-thirtyone 2008-08-12 09:00:07
I think that pulling this off would require participation from the Ute tribe. I am a graduate student at Montana State and up here, there is a Powow on campus every year and various other native American gatherings and/or educational cultural displays.
I think that it would be nice to try to do something positive for the Ute tribe after they went to bat for us with the NCAA over the whole nickname/mascot deal.
After seeing all the crazy responses to an ill-advised Derrick Fisher post earlier, I thought I might clarify a few things...

First, regarding Tatum’s treatment:
His daughter Tatum had (and still has) a form of cancer in her eye that will likely kill her quickly if it spreads out of her eye. By the time various treatment options were being considered by the Fishers, her eye was already so badly damaged that there is almost no chance she will ever be able to see out of it. Removal of the eye would likely have ended the problem. It was the opinion of the eye doctors at Primary Children’s (widely considered some of the best in the world, by the way, who are routinely sent difficult cases from around the country and the rest of the world) that removal of the eye was the wisest thing to do considering the consequences of the cancer spreading, and the fact that Tatum will never see out of that eye again anyway. However, her parents instead chose to try a new treatment technique that involves threading experimental injection equipment through blood vessels into her eye to deliver chemicals that will keep the cancer in check. Things to note about this procedure is that the cancer is still there in her eye (and thus there is still a possibility it may spread), but she gets to keep her non-functional eye.
Secondly, regarding Derrick Fisher’s decision to move to California:
Tatum is still receiving treatments to keep her cancer in check once a month in New York (there may be another facility in California, but she still goes to NY to get her treatment). He could certainly fly there just as easily from Salt Lake as from LA, in my opinion.
Other thoughts:
I am appalled by the inaccurate coverage of situation by the local and national media. While I agree that in general it is not okay to question the decisions people make regarding the welfare of their children, this case in particular reminds me of stories of parents refusing medical care for their afflicted children due to their religious beliefs and it pains me to watch things like this happen. I have no doubt that Derrick Fisher thinks he is doing what is best for his daughter, but I do not share his views on the matter.
Furthermore, as a Jazz fan (and really as an afterthought, as this is much less important than the health of his daughter), I would like to see him explain to a tv camera exactly how his move to LA improved the medical care his daughter is receiving.
Jazzy's blog got me thinking about the Weber St. game and it seems like maybe we should try to do something nice for Mac. What about doing something like the redzone shirts except this time we get either shirts or hats that say MAFU. I am pretty sure a plain red shirt/hat that says MAFU wouldn't cause any licensing headaches (I would think, I'm pretty sure that's not trademarked) and might continue the excitement for wearing red to the games. Any thoughts?
(I couldn't find any good photos of the hat, but here he is a hat =) )
Trying to stir up a football conversation, where is your favorite position in the stadium from which to watch a football game?
by thirtyfour-thirtyone 2008-03-30 10:26:38
While I was growing up we started out with single game tickets and I sat on the blacktop in the north-endzone, then we moved on to season tickets in the south endzone. I really like the view from the ends of the field. I have been to some football games at other places and had the chance to sit down low on the 50 yard line, but don't like it nearly as much as sitting above the endzone. Thoughts?
I have been stuck here writing my thesis which needs to be done by tomorrow and have been unable to attend practice.

For those of you who are as excited as I am about the Michigan game, here are some (pretty pathetic) photos from last year. Ah, if I close my eyes I can taste the beer and popcorn, and make out Utah Man being played over the roaring croud. The first thing I saw when I logged in today was the boardmail asking for the aTm game predictions in 2004. Ann Arbor here we come!!!!
Wait, I haven't looked at the board in the past 5 minutes. Does anyone know if COMCAST will be showing the game?
by thirtyfour-thirtyone 2008-03-24 10:06:37
I heard rumors it might be 413? Can someone please tell me?
On a more serious note, it is freaking awesome that these games are finally on the internet!!! It makes me much more appreciative of that guy that invented tv whos name escapes me right now. It so nice to finally be able to see the games and not just hear them. Does anyone know if football and basketball games will finally be available online next year now that the satellite deal is in the works? Football games are easier to travel to, being on saturdays and all, but it would be so nice to be able to actually watch the basketball team next year. Sigh...
It links to this page on the comcast site which has nothing to do with on demand Utah games. I remember they had a few football games (or maybe it was just one) that you could watch pay per view online. Are any of the basketball games available that way? I am guessing not based on where the link leads. I can't belive they have this crap on the Utah Utes page. Sorry for the running comentary as I self destruct over this. I think I will write the atheltics department a letter about this one.
The "officials" everyone keeps talking about when they say the "officials" released a statement saying the call was bad are the BOWL officials. These are the guys in suits that run the bowl, not the referees that officiated the game. The rules clearly are that a loose ball is spotted where it goes out of bounds, not where it hits the ground out of bounds (like on a punt out of bounds). Notice that a punt that travels 20 yards down field and fifty yars up into the stands is spotted where it crossed the sideline, not where it hit the popcorn guy in row 12. That is why the officials in the replay play booth (the real officials, not the bowl owning officials) said the original call should stand. The ball was spotted at the point where posession was lost because at this point it was already out of bounds.
I am thinking direct snaps to a combination of Darrell Mack and Nai Fotu in some offset I type set would run some time off the clock and put the defense / Sakoda in postion to make plays and win some football games. Why screw around with a quarterback?
Or another option: Sakoda as quarterback. Each play he has an option to either run for a first down, or punt if things don't look good.
Torrent downloading through your school/company firewall.
by thirtyfour-thirtyone 2007-09-19 22:12:06
HTTP Tunnel is nice program that tunnels all of your traffic out of the port you would normally use to view webpages, thus getting around your firewall (click on the name to go to the download page). There is an option to pay extra to get a version that allows faster downloads, but the free version has been working perfectly fine for me. Click here for instructions on how to set it up to work with u-torrent. My firewall had been giving me fits until I figured this out, so I thought I would post this in case someone else was having the same trouble.
I am out of state and thus am not able to do this. I was thinking it would be really great if someone could broadcast the airforce game online, either streamed independently or on something like TVU network. Any thoughts? If someone did this, I would be sure to send lots of tasty beverages in their direction when I am in town for the UCLA game.
Also, I found places that will sell local cable from different cities around the country online. Has anyone found one from Salt Lake by chance? I have been looking hard, but no luck so far.
I just called Jolt'n Joes at 379 4th ave in the gaslamp and they will have the game on. I will be there jumping up and down and yelling at the tv if anyone would care to join in. I like San Diego so far. The trolley is bright RED.
I can't answer the freshmen contibution question very accurately, but I did see this when I opened up the Trib website this morning:
by thirtyfour-thirtyone 2007-06-21 08:33:58
It has lots of red and doesn't suck as bad some of the others I've seen. Does anyone know if that company that was hired that's putting up the jumbotron thing in the JMHC and the LED bar in RES is going to have a say in advertising?
The Jerry who would have gotten tossed during the second quarter of the last two games? I can understand that he needed to be a little more forgiving with the younger guys on the team at the moment, but it's the playoffs. Hot Rod hasn't had to apologize for Jerry's muffled cursing nearly enough lately. When he does decide to retire, I hope he brings the John Deere hat out one last time.
Williams was the man last night, but what about Dee Brown?
by thirtyfour-thirtyone 2007-05-08 10:56:09
He looked a little shakey at times (came really close to turning it over), but he sure took care of business when he needed to.
Also, did anyone else catch the TNT anouncer's comment that Brown was playing well while Stockton was stuck on the bench with 4 fouls? That made me smile. Deron Williams has obviously made an impression.
Toronto owes Utah for taking Araujo off its hands... lol.
by thirtyfour-thirtyone 2007-05-07 08:40:49
From cbs sportsline:
"Folks in Toronto might be mad at Rafael Araujo, but no one ever twisted their arm to draft him. Raptors fans should be happy to be rid of him, and rooting for Utah because it took him off their hands on general principle. Somehow, the Jazz decided to take on Araujo, giving up the solid Kris Humphries.
Shoot, Raptors fans should have a big Utah foam finger based solely on that. "
They were discussing people who might have a grudge against Utah. They decided that Toronto should definitely not have a grudge against utah after the Jazz took Araugo off their hands.
So I am a graduate student at Montana State University (I have been for a year now) and have been following the football team up here a little bit. Last fall, every game was broadcast locally, and most of them were also broadcast on a nationally available satellite channel. This year, the spring game was broadcast (both a live, and delayed version) with the same arrangement (local as well as nationally available satellite channel). I have passed this information on to Chris Hill, and to Hair's office, but so far have not received a response that addressed my questions in any way.
Is anyone else interested in some sort of letter writing or email campaign (probably directed at MWC athletic directors) to put pressure on the Hair?
