In regards to the new RES Speaker system, here are my thoughts:

    by UtahPAC12
    2016-06-06 14:07:20

While I share H-Man's concerns about the aesthetics of the new system, I am going to reserve judgment until:

    1. I see the stadium full on game day and how that minimizes the "bug legs" everywhere.

    2. I hear the sound system. If it sounds great, that may forgive the appearance.

An early look into next year's depth chart:

    by UtahPAC12
    2015-11-20 14:26:51

With the season sadly winding down, here is an early look into next year's depth chart:

    OFFENSIVE RETURNERS: 6
Key Losses: Siaosi Aiono, Travis Wilson, Devonte Booker, Kenneth Scott, Brittain Covey and Bubba Poole

    DEFENSIVE RETURNERS: 7
Key Losses: Viliseni Fauonuku, Jason Fanaika, Jason Whittingham, Jared Norris, Gionni Paul and Tevin Carter

Potential Leave to NFL Early List: Isaac Asiata and Domo Hatfield

Biggest Strength: Offensive Line, Defensive Line and Secondary

Biggest Questions: Quarterback, Punter and Linebackers

Players Coming Back from Injury: Chase Hansen, Tim Patrick, Evan Moeai, Siale Fakaliotonga and Troy McCormick

It's clear that we lost a lot of great players this year and they will be missed. That said, there's still some ammunition in the cupboards.

    Siaosi Aiono
    Troy McCormick

Just rewatched the Stanford game...play of the game is the Orchard ball strip to Rowe, changed the game.

    by UtahPAC12
    2014-11-18 22:06:57

Stanford was up 7-0 and driving inside the 30 when Orchard strips the ball from their TE going down into the arms of Eric Rowe. 70 yards later, TW dives into the endzone.

Enough cannot be said about Nate Orchard and what he has done for this team this year. He's been pretty great on the field too. I'm going to miss you Nate Orchard. Thanks for your time at the University of Utah.

Sitting in the airport with my 7 year old son about to board to fly to Denver. Catching Broncos/Chargers tomorrow, back on Friday to see Utes/Trojans on Saturday. Great football weekend ahead!

    by UtahPAC12
    2014-10-22 20:24:54

Here's how a perfect weekend would play out:

    Chargers win
    Boise State win
    Wazzu win over Arizona
Utah win over USC (pinnacle of all things)
    Washington over ASU

Here's to hoping the weekend ends with Utah atop the South Division.

This team has exercised a few of the demons that has plagued the program of late:

    by UtahPAC12
    2014-10-17 09:27:20

    1. The "Interception Drought" demon
    2. The "QB Pressure" demon
    3. The "Win on the PAC Road" demon
    4. The "Back to Back PAC Win" demon
    5. The "Signature PAC Road Win" demon

    All that's left are the:

    1. "Consistent QB Play" demon
    2. "Get to a dang bowl game" demon
    3. "Beat ASU" demon
    4. "Beat USC" demon
    5. "Black Helmet, Red Jersey, Black Pant" demon

Progress has been made, there is more to be had.

    GO UTES!

Regardless of method or means, we all would have ecstatically accepted the following at the onset of the season:

    by UtahPAC12
    2014-10-17 09:14:37

    5-1 overall record
    2-1 record in PAC play
    3-0 road record
Wins in the Big House and Rose Bowl
    33 Sacks on the season
    A solid defensive backfield
More than 3 interceptions thus far
    A top 20 ranking
Our first showdown coming where we and our PAC opponent are both ranked.

It hasn't been pretty or necessarily with style, but I'm happy, I'm content...GO UTES!

    1. We are 3-0, coming out of non-conference play.
    2. Travis hasn't thrown an INT.
    3. Defense has as many INT's as they did all last season.
    4. A win in the Big House
    5. Defense looks solid
    6. Offense looks proficient
    7. Special Teams is the best in the nation
    8. Travis is still healthy-ish
    9. Players are buying in a supporting each other
    10. PAC 12 play is upon us.

DesNews.com has articles up written by a TDS and Utah fan each relaying how they think the rivalry game would have ended had it been played this year.

    by UtahPAC12
    2014-09-15 17:40:27

Utah Fan's version has Utah winning by 3 in a game played down to the wire. It's a modest assessment, but fair.

TDS Fan's version has TDS winning by 14 with their QB throwing for 238 yards and running for another 111 yards. Typical Zoob; arrogant, overly confident and completely unaware of how long it's been since TDS has won going away.

I for one enjoyed having BYE on our schedule over those knobs.

One thing to not be overlooked on the depth chart is the carry over of starters we'll have next year.

    by UtahPAC12
    2014-08-18 22:08:24

    Senior Offensive Starters:
    Junior Salt
    Westlee Tonga
    Dres Anderson

    Senior Defensive Starters:
    Sese Ianu
    Nate Orchard
    Eric Rowe
    Davion Orphey
    Tevin Carter
    Brian Blechen
    Gianni Paul

Likely to Leave Early if all goes as planned:
    Kenneth Scott
    Tim Patrick

Behind each of those players, minus the WR's and Orchard are viable underclassmen for next year.

With the loss of starting QB's in 2015, 7 home games and a wealth of experienced players...2015 looks to be interesting for the Utes.

    by UtahPAC12
    2014-06-13 17:42:07

Jeff Davis of Woods Cross brought his sons, Jacob and Ivan Davis, who are both less than 7 years old. He hoped the experience of meeting players would get his sons more invested in going to games.

"So many people watch the games at home now with HDTV," Davis said. "I want my kids to like going to the stadium. Itís just a cooler experience."

Rewatched the Utah/USU game tonight. Thoughts relavent to this year's team:

    by UtahPAC12
    2014-05-30 01:03:13

    1. In watching the game, I loved Travis Wilson about 30% of the time and wondered what he was doing the other 70% of the time. There's an element or facet to his game missing that just leaves me wanting. Then again, Jordan Wynn has given me trust issues.

    2. I hope to heaven that our O-Line comes together to a degree beyond last year's level of play. They were difficult to watch. Most times, getting destroy-ed.

    3. Give Dres the ball! Slants, sweeps, go routes...I don't care how. He is the most electric player we've had in many years.

    4. Watching K-Scott go down in the 2nd series still causes me pain, not pain to the degree that must be felt by Dallas Cowboy fans year after year, but close. Please kindly ask the MUSS to not include him on any oversized 1st down signs. I'm of the firm belief they jinxed him from the get-go. Please use Marcus Mariota or Brett Hundley as your 1st down play toy.

    5. Prince Andy "Iceman" Philips of Altaland will be a player of lore for years to come. Louie Sakoda thinks Andy will be a big deal.

    6. Nate Orchard belongs in Hogle Zoo...cause he's an animal! You can see raw physicality oozing off this guy on every play. I fear the player I'm going to miss most this year is Trevor Reilly. Nate Orchard is the only hope of making me forget.

    7. Losing Jacoby Hale to injury this year is going to be a bigger loss than most realize. He is our best "burst" LB. He's so quick through the line and able to sniff the right read. Norris, Paul, Williams, Whittingham are really going to have to stay healthy and exceed expectations.

    8. Our secondary makes me as nervous as Mark Cuban is walking on any side of the street. Keith McGill looked more 4th string than 4th round against USU. We need Orphey, Rowe, Blechen, Carter to all play to peak from game 1 to game 12 to give us a chance.

    9. I don't know how to assign the value of our run game vs. the execution of our O-Line. That said, we couldn't find a consistent pulse in establishing a valid threat in the run. Booker, McCormick, Poole...we need to find the solution fast instead of waffling between the 3.

    10. It'll be weird not seeing Brian Johnson prowl the sideline this year. I'm excited for the prospect of progressive change, but that jury will be out for many more months.

Lastly, time to hire a good attorney and start the process to divorce the 3rd to 4th quarter drum debacle. We can sit down and divide the assets and go our separate ways. The drums can keep Crazy Lady and we will keep the ROTC cannon and hope things can remain amicable for the sake of the kids.

Go UTES! I for one am excit-ed for next season.

Next year has the POTENTIAL to be great...with some changes:

    by UtahPAC12
    2013-11-16 20:40:28

Addition and Attrition will be needed to make next year great, but it has the makings to do so:

    ADDITIONS:
    1. QB Depth and a Solid Starter for 12 games
    2. The Return of Kenneth F. Scott
    3. Brian Blechen?
    4. Another year of depth via recruits and development
    5. Could we get an INT every so often?

    ATTRITIONS:
    1. Minor changes in coaching need to be made.
    2. Not having to play WWIU (We Will Injure U) in Provo
    3. Turnovers
    4. Can we stop the RB rotation and find a guy?

Losing Reilly and Palepoi is a bummer. That said, I have loved the development of our LB core. They have been solid and have kept us in games.

In Whitt I still trust. Let's finish strong and get those extras workouts before the bowl game. GO UTES!

    A game of inches...

    by UtahPAC12
    2013-11-16 20:30:57

OSU - Michael Walker closes on the ball in OT, it's over.
UCLA - Driving with Murphy's broken hand, just needed a score
Arizona - So many chances to win
USC - A little more offense...
ASU - Hold them on the last drive
    Oregon - Inches became miles

I'm not holding Whitt completely accountable, he has position coaches and players that just aren't executing their part. Our defense has kept us in and kept us close. To me the major issues have been:

    1. Injuries - Kenneth Scott, Jake Murphy, Westlee Tonga, Brian Blechen - any one or two of those players being healthy may be another win or two that were losses.

    2. OL Play - What a downer. Running game can't run, QB/WR connections don't have time to develop.

    3. Travis Wilson - I have given this guy a pass up to this point, but something just isn't adding up. It makes me anxious to see if he is the guy going forward or if Manning closes the gapp.

    4. WR Play - Inconsistent at best. You have a PAC 12 guy in Dres who disappears for stretches and is NFL caliber at other times. Denham and Fitz are serviceable, but not spectacular.

    5. Coaching - A-Rod, Jay Hill, OL Coach all need to have a performance review with Whitt. Horrible.

    6. Obama - Miley Cyrus was still Hannah Montana when Bush was president. Thanks Obama.

Dose of reality. I know we all say that the next man up has to pick up the rifle and pick up the slack, but we just have too many pieces missing:

    by UtahPAC12
    2013-10-19 23:39:06

Jake Murphy - Takes pressure of the WR on the wings by forcing coverage to the middle.
Westlee Tonga - See above plus the bonus blocking.
Kenneth Scott - A true boundary, possession, sideline, go-get-it receiver.
Jacoby Hale - A LB with speed to cover the boundary and go sideline to sideline.
Brian Blechen - I honestly don't know what he gives us, but I'm sure it's something.
Travis Wilson - He has his bad moments, but compensates with more good than bad.

You tell me you would expect us to be 4-3 with a win over Stanford missing 5 of those 6 for that game.

This game reminded me a little too much of last year, that said, this year as a whole has been nothing like last year. We've made steps in the right direction. No Poppinga victory here, just hope for better days. GO UTES!

I'm going to come out and say it...with a healthy Kenneth Scott, this Utah team is likely 5-0 at this point.

    by UtahPAC12
    2013-10-05 23:57:02

With K-Scott, we beat whom we've beaten. Utah State, Weber and TDS are still wins.

With K-Scott, Travis Wilson may not have thrown 3 INT's against OSU with another ball hawk to bring those down and in.

With K-Scott, we have a possession receiver to bring it in on those needed 3rd and 4th down plays.

That said, with Blechen healthy and playing all season, we are still 3-2. The difference we need is another high level PAC 12 receiver to line up opposite of Dres.

My fellow Ute fans, ask not what a Cougar fan, Cougar player or Cougar journalist has said/done lately...really, what is the point of trying to understand or even wanting to care?

    by UtahPAC12
    2013-09-26 23:25:04

Let's move on. They've said their peace. They've stood on their soapbox. They've successfully PR'd their way out of a bad situation predicated on a series of dumb decisions by someone that I'm sure we would rub shoulders with if he weren't a part of their program.

Let's be UTAH UTES fans! Let's celebrate our dominating string of victories. Let's focus on hosting the #13 team in the country for our annual blackout game.

Let's focus on the fact that we have a QB we can finally stand behind. Let's be grateful for a coach that doesn't feed us drivel but recognizes and acknowledges problems and the need for improvement.

It's time to take a cathartic break from caring what anyone south of Draper does for the next 36 months. We'll all be the better for it.

    GO UTAH UTES!

Fun Fact: Did you know that Abraham from The Walking Dead plays hoops for Utah State?
    (630 days ago, 2 stars)

Would it be crazy to consider Adam Schulz for this weekend? After all, he is the only QB on the roster that has beaten Colorado.
    (638 days ago, 1 stars)

I've had many BM's seeing all these Ute fans selling their tickets. Man up and buy a poncho!!!
    (641 days ago, 0 stars)

Had some TDS/Savannah State tickets that I was trying to give away, even the D.I. wouldn't take them.
    (641 days ago, 6 stars)

    Not a trick question:

On the heels of Senior Day, which senior player is going to be the toughest to replace, based on not only what that player brings, but also who we have to fill that spot.

Just rewatched the Stanford game...play of the game is the Orchard ball strip to Rowe, changed the game.
    (644 days ago, 6 stars)

Utah is the only PAC 12 team that Stanford has not beaten.

Vegas line just moved from Oregon (-9.5) to Oregon (-8.0) in the last few hours.

I'd love to see the Utes wear ALL RED this weekend against the Ducks. #UTESinRED
    (659 days ago, 2 stars)

Vegas line jumped to ASU (-5) and then an hour later to (-6.5). Looks like we may be missing another player this week. Dang!
    (663 days ago, 1 stars)

If the University of Utah were a school of wizardry, I'm pretty sure our patronus would be in the form of Nate Orchard or Jared Norris.

Sitting in the airport with my 7 year old son about to board to fly to Denver. Catching Broncos/Chargers tomorrow, back on Friday to see Utes/Trojans on Saturday. Great football weekend ahead!

This team has exercised a few of the demons that has plagued the program of late:

Regardless of method or means, we all would have ecstatically accepted the following at the onset of the season:
    (676 days ago, 6 stars)

Vegas line just dropped a point to Utah -2.0. Hate to see the line move against us at anytime. GO UTES!!! Beat the Beavers, Wally's, Junes and Wards!

The EPIC nature of this weekend is just settling in:
    (701 days ago, 7 stars)

You could magically insert one of these former Utes into the line up for this weekend only. Who do you pick and why do we need him most?
    (705 days ago, 0 stars)

I see them as maybe the 12th best team...and that's if they replaced Colorado in the PAC 12.
    (707 days ago, 2 stars)

Not to be trite, but you should have listed your response in the category as used on this very post.

DesNews.com has articles up written by a TDS and Utah fan each relaying how they think the rivalry game would have ended had it been played this year.

I'm a little surprised that the Browns would burn Johnny Football's redshirt year for just one play. Seems like a waste of eligibility to me.

One thing to not be overlooked on the depth chart is the carry over of starters we'll have next year.
    (736 days ago, 2 stars)

With all of the fuss over who will be the starting QB, we may be overlooking the optimism associated with having a valid back-up at that position. 12 days is too long.
