6”1” 211 but should be 200-205

Total cholesterol was 221 the last time I went to the doc. Should be <200. I had a turkey burger at Red Robin last week because of it and it sucked.

I’ve been fighting Plantar Fasciitis in my right foot since Nov. 2011 but a physical therapist gave me some good stretching exercises that seem to be helping.

My handicap index is currently 6.0. The lowest it has ever been is 3.8 but I haven’t played or practiced much lately. I drive the ball straight. My short game isn’t very good.

I don’t like the NFL but have a Jets hat because my first memories of football are Joe Namath’s Jets teams. I used to like the Chargers because Dan Fouts was my idol. I wrote a poem about the Chargers when I was a kid and received a thank you letter signed by Don Coryell. (suck on that MV)

I don’t like the NBA but I have a Celtics hat because my wife is from New England.

I like MLB but not as much as I did when I was young. Too much player movement these days. I have a Red Sox hat (see above) and a Dodgers hat because we lived in LA for short time.

I played QB in high school. Granger High Class of ’84 and I could throw a football over them mountains even though I was a 0 star recruit.

I moved to Ephraim to play for Snow but had a somewhat serious life event that fall and I moved back home. Had I stayed I would have been a part of their 1985 JC National Championship team and Bronco Mendenhall’s teammate. I’m glad I never met him.

Graduated from the U. Applied to the U law school in 2004 but was denied. As far as I know nobody gave Tom Holmoe a courtesy call.

I like most all music. I have Pandora stations for everything from Vivaldi to Patti Smith to Dengue Fever to Waylon Jennings. Ella Fitzgerald and Loretta Lynn to LL Cool J and The Doors and Sex Pistols and Pogues.

I’ve been in the real estate/mortgage industry since 1991. I have a very small, modest operation but am happy and proud of what I do and the success I’ve enjoyed.

I am hopeful and optimistic that they will all be great and will fulfill their greatest potential while here although I know that is Pollyanna-ish.

Nevertheless, I welcome anyone who wants to be a part of the Ute family (except Marshall Henderson) and hope that they enjoy their time here, leave with great memories, and come back often. And, most importantly, have fun!

Car audio

It's been 30 years since I've not been perfectly happy with whatever audio system the manufacturer put in my car.

I have no clue what to buy.

Really, she doesn't want to touch the dash but she wants speakers that she can play loud without rattling.

Basketball attendance

There was also a Jazz home game last night with 18K attending.

How much crossover is there? Without the Jazz home game do the Utes get a few more butts in seats?

Was the Hunty at capacity every night for RM? How much is attendance down from those days?

My few Majerus memories

I am a little conflicted about him. I certainly enjoyed the winning. I don’t like the stories of how he treated people sometimes. I wish I had the same passion in my job that he had in his. I have the utmost respect for that.

I have had a general sadness since Friday. Kind of like something really good had been wasted. Wondering what might have been. Wondering if he wishes things had gone differently. Could Utah have made the Final Four again? Gottlieb suggested he stayed the last few years just to insure he’d have the State’s health benefits for life. That he was really ready to leave two years sooner. That he wanted to go.

I’ve never been the rabid fan some of you are and I don’t have vivid memories of the 10 best wins, etc. but I have a couple obscure memories that come to mind.

I remember him coaching a game in Laramie in a gray Wyoming hoodie. I don’t remember the circumstances why but I found it very funny. Something only he could pull off.

At the 1998 Final Four someone asked Michael Doleac what it is like playing for Majerus with his sense of humor and one-liners. Said Doleac “he has a lot of one-liners but they’re usually not funny.”

The importance of big plays

The importance of winning the turnover battle is well documented but who knew winning the "big play" battle equates to the same likelihood of winning the game?

Toxic Differential does a good job at showing how teams balance risk and reward.

It essentially combines turnover differential with explosive play differential (defined as plays gaining more than 20 yards).

It has long been a proven adage that if you have a plus-2 turnover advantage on your opponent you will win the game 80 percent of the time. If you have a minus-2 explosive-play advantage it equally leads to winning about 80 percent of the time. If you have both you win close to 95 percent of the time.

The next day, proud to show off her new pet, the little girl set off to take the dog for a walk around the neighborhood. Realizing the dog was in heat the mother put a few drops of gasoline on the dog’s hindquarters to keep the male dogs at bay.

About 30 minutes later the girl returned home without her dog. “Where is your dog?”, the mother asked. The little girl said, “Oh, she ran out of gas but don’t worry. That other dog is pushing her home.”

As suspect as Utah’s offense has been UW’s appears to be worse. And Utah’s defense is better.

Utah gets more sacks, gives up fewer. Virtual tie on Turnover Differential which is where I think the game is won or lost.
