Really all I was trying to say was that the perceived advantage isn't really what a lot of people think it is.

Perhaps I could have worded it better, but if the RM perceptions were mostly true then Utah colleges should be blowing every body out. We of course know this isn't the case.

To your retort: How many games would byu win if they didn't have RMs? I have no idea. If you took away all of their RMs and they had to field a team of 85 scholarship players that didn't take time for a mission after high school then my guess is they would be an average G5 team.

Maybe RMs do count for a few extra wins a year but in byu's case the perceived dominance of 25-year old men bullying 18 year old kids only holds true against bad/marginal teams lacking experience.

So while I agree with you that it's a great advantage to foster an older culture in the locker room and have older bodies out on the field I don't think it's enough of an advantage to exhibit the kind of dominance that critics of RMs perceive.

o NEW: It was posted before that if missionaries was such a huge advantage, BYU would be winning a lot more than they are right now.

o NEW: It's probably both. Add into that an increase of cognitive development and there is some truth to the advantage claim. (nm)

The Thrill icon NEW: BYU with the same players, no missions, would lose 3-4 games more per year in football.
