Exactly my point.

Alabama 18 year old's are as talented athletically as Utah 25 year old's are talented mentally. It's a bit of a leveling factor to be honest, that's why I accept it.

Utah and BYU have long benefited from missions, it's obvious when Utah and BYU have both had great success versus very similar programs like Wyoming, UNLV and San Diego St. The one differentiating factor is the return missionary older players.

Elite programs don't need the benefit because their players are simply better at a younger age. Some positions it doesn't benefit though, corner, WR, RB or even QB. But linebackers, OL and DL benefit greatly from gaining sheer mass and mental aptitude. BYU made a killing for years off of RM offensive lineman. It was McBride who recognized that and started focusing his recruiting on it.

Why don't teams like Wyoming, Nevada, Fresno or Colorado State do it...they do, but just not to the lengths that Utah and BYU do.

All I'm saying is I love the older players, it's a huge advantage for Utah and I don't deny it. To deny it is pretending that you're hiding something, just embrace it.

The Thrill icon NEW: I for one love the fact Utah players go on missions. They become more mature and headstrong with priorities. Why deny that?

o NEW: Don't care, just get the best players possible. That said, I do remember Britton Johnsen sucking right after his mission. (nm)

o NEW: Why can't BYU fans realize this? YES, it is an advantage to have a kid go on a mission especially when it comes to the OL/DL.

Zeous icon NEW: It's not invalidating to Utah to accept that the two programs were closer then than they are today. Unless your insecurities prevent objective analysis. (nm)

TheBaron icon NEW: Except that objective analysis supports that Utah has never really had any higher than 10% of football scholarships occupied by former LDS missionaries.
