So is the industry at fault? Is the five year old at fault? OR are the parents responsible for this horrible tragedy?

My take is that the parents are completely at fault in this situation .
A five year old should NEVER have unsupervised access to a firearm.
Anyone that has firearms needs to store them securely. Gun safes are not prohibitively expensive. And even if they are out of someone's price range there are several low tech I expensive ways to secure your firearms and all it takes is a trip to the hardware store and a couple hours of labor.

And children in this country need to be educated about firearm safety. Even those kids of non gun owners need the education for the sime reason that parents can't be there 24/7. At least if the kid is educated and little Joey down the at street does something unsafe with a fun than the other kid will know to leave. And no this wouldn't have helped the two year old in the story.

Parenthetically death by firearms is at 20 year low in the U.S.

pangloss icon NEW: That's a sloppily written article by the KSL reporter - he conflates ''Gun-related deaths' with 'gun homicides' several times. (nm)

pangloss icon NEW: Some day, probably not in my work lifetime and maybe not in your's, but some day, maybe, the labor market will once again favor the working stiffs and we will be able to demand raises, increasing benefits, less bull $#!+, and more time off.
