I have no problem agreeing to your choice of framing.

So in the last 30 years only four non power conference teams have been invited to power conferences due to voluntary expansion - Florida State, Miami, South Carolina (former ACC member, so I'm not sure that they should be counted), Penn State, and Utah, with Utah being the only (now former) mid-major to receive such an honor. Sounds like a good list to be on and quite the accomplishment to crow about, if you ask me.
Going back at least 60 years the only "mid-majors" to ever be "called up" voluntarily are Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah, which makes for a very short list that I see plenty of reason to take pride in making.
Also, do you honestly consider the Big East a power conference since Miami, et al. left? The way most of America sees it, Miami left a power conference to join the ACC, but Cincinnati, Louisville, and USF did not join a power conference. I seem to remember lots of talk in 2004/05 about how Utah's Fiesta Bowl win was a joke because it was against the Big East champ and the Big East is a "power conference in name only." I really don't see the parallels between Utah's PAC invite and Louisville's Big East invite, but you gotta do what you gotta do to try to discredit Utah's accomplishments, I guess.
