Landmines we need to avoid in MWC this year...

Date: Tuesday 30 July 2002, at 03:44 pmThis season has promise for the Utes, but everyone is holding their breath fearing a repeat of the annual Ute FB stubbed toe. Without question this is proverbial monkey on our back we need to strangle.
Here are the games we need to focus on in particular to achieve the elusive OCC.
#1 - New Mexico, @ Albuquerque Oct 26. This one concerns me because it is later in the season, its at UNM, and they're really, really bent about not getting more respect, particularly for their defense.
Lobos have a good defense, an experienced QB in Casey Kelly and one fast WR, Dwight Counter. Their kicker Borombozin (or however he spells his name) is a weapon, too.
We absolutely need to take care of business in Albuqueque this year.
#2 - UNLV, SLC, Nov 9. This one has "letdown" written all over it. They owe us, as we physically beat the crap out of them in Vegas last year, and if things go like we hope, things should be rolling along, primed for big head-itis and overlooking a talented but not highly regarded foe.
#3 - AFA, SLC, Sept 28. After we play a PAC team & 2 Big 10 teams, Fisher DeBerry will bring his team to REOS for our first MWC game. Although we owe them because of what happened last year, this could be a dangerous one. We should be OK.
#4 - State of Scared Sheep, Laramie, Nov 16. We've pounded them twice in two years. If State of Scared Sheep is any good this year, they'll be out for revenge and at home in late Nov in that God-forsaken place. By the time this game takes place, State of Scared Sheep will either be dangerous, or they'll have given up (which, if we think that is the case, is dangerous.)
#5 - Utah State - Aug 31 Logan. First games are always tough to predict, and USU will be motivated, without question. We don't need to stumble out of the gate, not this year.
#6 - Indiana - last year's game was close, and they'll be primed, with a new coach, and maybe a new attitude.
Teams We Owe a Beating
- CSU at REOS Oct 19
- BYU at REOS Nov 23
- AFA at REOS Sept 28
No excuses - we've got to get it done this year!
