Some thoughts on the MWC football race (longish)...

Well we're almost there so I thought I would give some personal thoughts as to what is going to happen.

Teams who won't be as good as advertised...
UNLV - While they played nice last year that team just never demonstrated greatness. Its one thing to suprise everyone its another to do it when you're expected to.

SDSU - No one is picking them to win the league but people keep rating them high. There is one rule to this league SDSU is even more inconsistent that Utah, no matter how much talent they get they will never win.

Teams who will be better
Wyoming - Now I haven't seen their schedule so this one could come with an astrisk but they lost their entire team to injury in back to back games with Auburn and A&M I believe. Late in the year they played a 2-5-4 alignment on defense because they had only 2 healthy d linemen and could not go nickle package because of only having 4 healthy d backs. Its gotta get better than that.

Utah - I write this with some trepidation as the football gods may smite us for this but listen to my thinking. First the offense couldn't be worse unless they never score and turn the ball over everytime. So we're going to get some more points and more movement. Plus the experienced O-Line will help alot. The improved O will not leave the D in such precarious positions as they did last year. We're going to have a very nice front 7 giving that secondary room to grow, plus Kyle has always been a coach to believe in. Couple this with Ron's back being against the wall and no one expecting anything from us we could really come on.

As for the other teams, I expect CSU to win it, Air Force will be very good, New Mexico will blow and as for our friends at the Y. I go over to their boards to look for info on how this season will go and except for a whole lot of our guys are working out their sphincters seem tight enough to make diamonds. The last I heard they were going to go with something like the Oklahoma offense from last season or something like Joe Tiller at Purdue. The thing about coaches is that they all head off to coaching clinics in the summer and almost certainly the topic this offseason was how to stop that offense. I don't think it'll will suprise anyone and I just don't feel BYU will be much improved from last year.

Here is how I see the finish of the season

CSU
Utah
Air Force
UNLV
BYU
Wyoming
SDSU
New Mexico

or something close.
