Ramblings of a ticked off Ute fan

(WARNING! Do not read this if you are a hypersensitive Ute Polyanna who always has to put a rosy face on something. I can't be held responsible for my criticism. I'm utilizing all of my energy to keep from swearing.)

WOW!

I haven't seen an effort that poor since I supervised a group of teenage skater-dudes performing community service. I have no idea if someone passed out valium in the lockerroom, or if the Ute coaches tried to get the team fired up by singing Gordon Lightfoot's "The Sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (the most depressing song ever written), but there wasn't enough energy on the offensive side of the football to power one of those hand-held children's windmills.

Now I know why the marketing department has done nothing beyond sitting on their collective butts all year. They don't want to draw attention to the horrendous product that they put on the field tonight - and I don't blame them.

When we went into half time with a 3-0 lead, I looked at my friend, and said, "We're going to lose. I know Arizona is in making adjustments as we speak, and we're not." I wish I'd have been wrong.

Now, I've actually had a chance to cool down...somewhat...so I'm not going to assign blame. What's done is done, and pointing out who's at fault isn't going to change anything. However, there needs to be a MAJOR overhaul on offense. Let me start by giving a few hints on how the game should be played:

Hint One: This is for Tommy Lee - Hey, Tommy, it's actually legal to run the football outside of the hash-marks, and pass the ball between them. D'Shaun had one carry around the end all night, and what happens, he gains 20 yards. You know what Tommy, never mind. Take this hint instead - The job listings in Sunday's SL Trib are pretty good. I think Taco Bell is hiring.

Hint Two: This may come as a shock to everyone, but 185 lb backs aren't generally the most effective running up the gut. I heard Mac talk about how they didn't need to change the scheme for D'Shaun because he's so quick at hitting the hole. Well, he's obviously not quick enough to hit it before that inept offensive line closes it.

Hint Three: This is for T.D. - When you throw an incomplete pass, and the announcer names three guys defending on the play, you just did something wrong. It's probably OK to look at another receiver when your primary one is triple covered.

Hint Four: Your primary receivers are most likely going to draw triple coverage if you continue to stare them down from the moment the ball is snapped (Darnell, this goes for you too.)

Hint Five: Can we PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE recruit a kicker? I don't understand what is so hard about that concept. All I know is that in the 10 years I've been a Ute fan, there's been exactly ONE kicker I've liked - Dan Pulsipher. Other than that, the kicking game for this team has been a joke. As soon as the season's over - which will be Nov. 25th if some serious changes aren't made - I want Mac on a plane, and he better not come back until he has some frizzy haired Euro who only has one name. If I don't hear next year, "And Osvaldo lines up for the Extra Point attempt." someone needs to get canned.

Hint Six: If I'm the offensive line coach, those guys are going to run stairs, hills, intervals, and windsprints until they vomit from every pore. I've seen three year olds reaching for the cookie jar with a greater sense of purpose than these guys had. Either Arizona was just so much bigger and faster than them that they need better workouts, or they didn't put forth the effort and need to understand that that's not going to cut it.

OK, I guess I shouldn't always look on the dreary side. Actually, there was a plus to this game. I brought my 3 month old son to the game. In the first quarter, the crowd noise kind of got to him and he cried a lot. But by the end of the game, the crowd was dead silent, and he had a great time. See, I feel better already.

GO UTES! (I guess)

Handing out the grades (Warning: It's not pretty)...

Posted By: Red Sheep

Without duplicating everything stated below, I'll just give grades to certain aspects of the game:

Offense: Easily, the most embarrasing effort since....Wyoming last year. Why does Utah do this. So much hope, promise and expectations. In a word-abissmal. Grade: F.

QB's: I don't care who starts, TD and Darnell are not D1 QB's. I could see them being moderately successful at Dixie or Snow. Grade: TD: D+. A couple of his passes should have gone for touchdowns but were dropped. Darnell: C-. I sensed a different urgency while he was in and he appeared to be able to move the offense somewhat, but they couldn't punch it in.

The "Duck": Why do we always have to go to this goofball play at the goal line. It's becoming embarrasing, and it hasn't worked for years. Teams already prepare for it because they know T.L. will use it. Ditch it, it's awful. Grade: F.

Defense: Easily the most impressive thing about last night. I wasn't sold on how well the DL could contain the run. Sure, they never let one bust through for a huge gain (except for the first play from scrimmage), but seemed to be inconsistant. As always, very limited pass rush. Kautai gets defensive game ball. Grade: B.

Punt Return Team: Note to Stevonne: You don't have to try and return every kick. Grade: F.

Kicking Game: Grade F. 'Nuff said.

Attendance: As much as we've harped on attendance in the past, IMO the showing was impressive, all things considered (Labor Day weekend, typical Ute fan apathy, etc). R-E was at least 80-85% full and the student section was nearly full. Grade: A-.

Tommy Lee and play calling: When is RonnieMac going to finally cut this guy loose? Grade: F.

The good, the bad and the ugly ...

I waited until this morning before I wrote this, so I could cool down.

THE GOOD

Yes there was good. The Dbacks deserve an A+. The AZ QB has complted 60% of his passes in his career. He threw for 11 yards on 3 for 15 passing. In my book that is an A+.

The front 7 played well, but not great. Certainly, good enough that we should have won.

THE BAD

Our quarterbacks.
Our offensive line.
Our running game.
Too many dropped passes. (One would have been a touchdown.)
Our special teams.
Only 41,000 + fans.

THE UGLY

Our kicking game.
Bad penalties at key times.
Poor use of timeouts in 1st half. All were used with 12 minutes to go.
Lousy offensive scheme. Mac PROMISED a major change. We still do NOT throw to the running backs. We rarely throw to the tight ends. We always run up the middle instead of going wide.
Arizona made changes at half and we did not.

I am a loyal Ute and I will be at the game next week, and the next, etc. However, you MAC protectors need to look at this honestly. He has not taken advantage of his talent. We lost last night do to a lot of reasons. But, the blame should fall mostly on the backs of the coaching staff!! Wittingham is the exception.

It could be worse - I could be a Penn State fan.

I remain - Proud2BaUte!!!

All of my concerns this summer - came true ..

1. Our running game. I am not sure that we have one. That was the worst effort running that I can remember in a long time. Outside Darnell's scrambles, we had only ONE run for over 10 yards.

2. The QBs. Thes ae two great guys. But, they are not good D1 QBS. We have the receivers, but not the QBs to get it to them. Sure there were 3 or 4 dropped passes. But 21 for 51 is pathetic.

3. Offensive scheme. Once again, Mac and Lee did nothing much to make changes. I still did not see one pass to a running back, let alone a true screen.

4. Fan support. 41,000 does not seem too bad. But, why can't we sell out? We will probably get one sellout this year against BYU and there will be 10,000 BYU fans there.

KUDOS to a great defensive effort!!!!

Therapy

I find that putting my thoughts on paper (well, not literally) is somewhat theraputic.

Arizona did not win, the Utes lost. It is all the same in the end, but it is somehow different.

The Ute defense was better than I expected. They rarely lost contain on Jenkins. They put good pressure on him. They allowed fewer than 3 yards per carry. Only three pass receptions. I was surprised that Dyson got beat twice. Lucky the passes were off target. Ray played a very good man-to-man.

The OL was pathetic. Croshaw took too many hard hits. Crockett had no creases to run through. The receivers dropped too many passes. Arcenaux brings energy to the offense, but just cannot throw the ball.

I'm all for getting good returns on punts, but Stevonne Smith took too many chances. It finally caught up to him. I don't know what would be worse, his doing that with the blessing of the coaches or his doing it without.

The Utes were successful last year by winning the turnover margin. You cannot go -5 and expect to win against a good opponent.

Arizona has scoreboard, the Utes gave them the victory. I guessed that the outcome would be 27-17 for the Utes. I was right on the Arizona side of things. I would have been right on the Utah score if: Russell doesn't drop a sure TD on the first possession; the Utes can gain 2 yards on 4 plays; Russell gets a foot inbounds on the ball in the north endzone; and Golden can go 2-4.

The big problem is the Utes usually take two losses before they get the ship righted. My guess is that they will not rebound against Cal.

Oh well, I'm going to Lake Powell.

My summary of the Y2K Utes (after one game)

O.K. let me start by asking why we have not spent next to our entire recruiting/scouting budget recruiting kickers? How many games are we going to lose mising chip-shot field goals. I am not asking for the next Kevin Butler, but I would simply like a kicker that can hit a high percentage field goal.

I see a very realistic score of 17-12 going into the last quarter, and then kicking two more (instead of 4th and 2 and 4th and 10 in the red zone). With a kicker that could hit a field goal in easy range, we would have won the game.

That being said, we are the same team that we have been for the last #of years that I can remember, having excess numbers of penalties in key situations (ie 3rd and 1 and after having fumbled on the 30 to give them another 15).

This was an embarassment.

In a way I am glad that we have such a useless promotions department within Utah athletics, at least we didn't have any new fans at the game to see their first experience of our wonderful football program.

On the note of TV, let's be realistic, everybody that was watching stopped after a scoreless first half.

When is hoops starting????

Why do I care?

I'm spending a long weekend in Seattle area this weekend. I had football Saturday all set-up. Watch the Huskies beat Idaho, which they did, and then go back to my brother's house and watch MY team and his realy home team (went to the UofU) beat Arizona (of course it's all PAC-10 up here).

Huskies OK, Utes embarrassment.

Had I been home I would have been to the game, but liked the opportunity to watch the Utes play on ESPN2 national TV. What happened?

I don't blame it on the crowd. Utah fans have suffered through the late 60's, 70's and 80's being treated far worse than McBride's regime, but are still in a show-me state. They got showed this game like last year when I took my boy to Boise St., and we all know how wonderful that was.

Observations TV only: Announcers were heavily Arizona (Pac-10). Our defense was awesome. I hate kickers, they're head cases and even if they are JUCO all-americans they still are head cases, (Golden Earring). Start Arceneax, his interceptions were desperation towards the end of the game. He may not be quite the passer as TD, but he moves the ball, and I get the sense of electricity when he's in. Not a knock on TD, but Darnell should be the quarterback.

Start the jc running backs. We have no running game. I like the enthusiasm of the new guys, but prepare the JC guys and let them play along with Nick Morgan, who I've always liked and made positive yardage last night, he reminds me of Rathman for San Fran. of a few years back, hard nose, rock hard running back. Put D'Shaun into the game on specific situations, not an every play type of runner.

Tommy Lee has to mix up the playbook. Arizona, as has all of our opponents in the past, knew we were going to run up the middle on 1st down and quite a bit on 2nd down. Take advantage of Michael Richardson, other tight ends. Take advantage of secondary receivers, why force triple coverage in the end zone, when a player is standing alone in the corner?

Crowd lacks enthusiasm. True, what's your point. Like I said before, the teams deamands it. When I go to the game, I sit on pins and needles, wondering what the hell is going to happen. Are we going to look like a Jr. high team, or the Utes that won the Las Vegas Bowl and shared in the MWC title? It's just too hard to predict.

I feel embarrassed (again) for the UofU community for the inept play of last night. Even towards the end I thought we could have won the game because Arizona couldn't do a thing against our defense.

Bad Coaching again?????

The game isn't over yet, so just in case we come back and win I'm going to make all of my criticisms now lest I start feeling good and forget them.

First of all, where is the "new" approach to offense we were promised? I swear that we literally have run 3/4ths of the time of 1st & 2nd down. Play action? What is that? How long do you think it took them to figure out that we run on 1st & 2nd only and pass on 3rd only? Is there maybe a correlation between our pathetic running attack and the way we advertise what we are going to do?

How about all of the delay of game calls? Can you say "lack of discipline" or "disorganization"?

Do we have any one who can catch? How many drops tonight?

Croshaw and Arcenaux are certainly on the same page when it comes to waiting too long to deliver the ball and getting knocked on their asses.

3 fumbles, all 3 lost.

The overall probelm as I see it as is follows: Ron McBride does a good job with defenses. In general they are fast and mean and play with recklessness and abandon. Unfortunately the offense also plays with recklessness. McBride seems to have the philosophy that if you simply play crazy, you will succeed and becasue it works on defense he thinks it will work on offense too. He strikes me as a person who lacks the sophistication to understand offensive football in the year 2000. Ritchie Petibone, Ray Rhodes, Buddy Ryan, Dave Wanstadt: all people from the same mold. Great defensive coaches who fail as head coaches because they don't understand the other side fo the ball. On defense you need enthusiasm and abandon. On offense you need execution and poise and calm. Turn overs, penalties, ect, ect, ect.

THE UTES LOSE THE MENTAL SIDE OF THE GAME TONIGHT.
I just can't help but think that we are not as bad as we look tonight, and I know it is just one game, but what I am seeing is not a lack of effort or a lack of ability, but rather a lack of the mental approach to offensive football that you need to win.

The defense actually looks pretty good tonight and will likely only get better.

I honestly think that it would be hard to squander teh offensive talent we have more than we are right now.

GO UTES!!!!!!

P.S. How much worse could our young QB's be???????

This game stunk.

First of all, I went to it. The only thing worth watching was the Utah streakers (only in Utah do streakers wear their underwear). The drunk frat boys in front of me with the big BEER sign, drinking the old jungle juice, were irritating.

Croshaw is not the starting Quarterback. Arceneaux was better but he is also not that great. Our offense sucks, this team could be beat by half of the highschools in Utah. They came in strutting like they were all that, well they were all that.......a big steamy pile of SH!T!!!!! I really hope they wake up tomorrow and realize that they better play better or cellar of the MWC here we come.

There were absolutely no pluses in this loss. Did we have an offensive line or did we just let their line rush right in?

I don't know, pass the bullets, and maybe I should just stick to Basketball.

Sure there were. Brandon Dart walked off the field under his own power : )

All kicking errrrrrr, kidding aside. That game did stink, but from my vantage point both teams did not play all that well.

The kicking (can we even call it that?) game was beyond any help. Over the past couple of weeks, I read several articles, talking about how the kicking was going to be so much better this year, yadda yadda yadda. I don't think that I have EVER seen it worse! One of the MANY missed FG attempts could have beaned me if it had had just a little more umph....... and I was a good 10 to the side of the goalposts. Of course, when they abandon any hope of attempting a field goal OR a punt, they still can't convert ANYTHING! Which leads me to ask, Can we get some pics of the "kicking" errrrrr..... "shanking" team on the Warp page, just so I can take out my frustrations on them and not do anything illegal?

Also, someone PLEASE tell me how you get the ball on the 2 yard line, with 1st and GOAL and Arizona gets it back on downs at the 2. That is a only 6 feet! Most of our guys could fall down at the 2 and still manage to get the ball over the goal line. The Offensive line was named pretty accurately, because tonight they were offensive to watch!

Enough of my ramblings......

UPGRADED SCHEDULE

Posted By: BRING BACK KANESHIRO
Date: Saturday, 2 September 2000, at 11:41 p.m.

Boy, I've got to say that I am glad we've upgraded the schedule. UA won six games last year and is picked to finish 8th in the Pac 10. At least it gets better for us. Assuming Coach Mac can bring us from the dead to beat Cal. I mean, hell, Cal is picked to finish 9th in the Pac 10. In fact, if we don't win there we'll have a chance against Washington State, they are picked to finish 10th.

Oh well, maybe the UA is a great team. They've got the best offense we'll see all year. They could move the ball with abandon. Noone will stop them. They will score 14 on every team they play this year. I mean, predictions can be wrong and we were picked first in the MWC.

I'm sure glad we signed Coach Mac to an extension.

Failed expectations....

Posted By: S. Gil
Date: Sunday, 3 September 2000, at 12:22 a.m.

Lets try to keeping from walking off the ledge. So we'll never be in the BCS or win the Pac ten. I'm as irritated as anybody but all is not lost. Two things irritated me tonight they were 1) Our offensive Line. 2) Our readiness to play a big game. Arizona has a pretty good Dline, hopefully the best we'll see all year. They kept or O off balance all night. They didn't do anything amazing. They rushed four all night and got to the qb at least 70% of the time. They never created holes for our weak running game and didn't give either qb time to throw. Don't be so quick to blame this game on the qb's. In my mind the blame goes to the Oline. Maybe the worst effort I've ever seen. Sam White left the gate open to the qb all night. These guy need to take a serious look at themselves because they let alot of people down. I thought dispite the pressure croshaw looked pretty good. He could of got flustered and gotten happy feet but he didn't. You can only put a guy in third and long so many times before disaster happens. What do people see in Darnell? The guy has made no improvement since being at Utah. He is completing predicable and easy to stop. Fans kept yelling his name as if Croshaw was doing something wrong. He was getting killed by his Oline. Their were several times that we need just another second to complete a pass but the line broke down. Very sad. The only bright spot on offense was Russell (who droped a sure TD in the first half) and Josh Lyman.

The D was great Arizona had 150 yard total offense all night. Utah's offense kept putting them in bad positions. Bright spots were Kaufusi, Ma'ake, Kautai, and Jeff Ray. Arizona's Offense wasn't that impressive but didn't need to be. They had people open deep all day but kept missing them. Dyson got beat several times.

What is up with our special teams? Whetman was really bad. I think he is weak in the head. Is their an unwritten rule in Utah football that we can't call a fair catch. It really is stupid. Let's try to stay positive they will get better before they get worse. How much worse can it get?

I was disappointed that I didn't see one I-formation for D'shaun. His strength as a running back doesn't go well with a one back formation. You could see many opportunities were the one guy that got into the hold kept him from breaking free. You can see the guys speed on a couple of times when he did get the corner, but this guy needs a fullback in front of him. Create the Wildcats defense as well. These guys can run and fill the holes very, very well. I just think an extra blocker at the point of attack would have made a difference on several occasions.

> Don't be so quick to blame this game on the qb's.

A few long balls got dropped. Croshaw delivered them well. The drop Cliff Russell had on the first drive was a killer. He had his man by four steps, but couldn't get the handle. It was six points easy. How big of a difference would that have made?

> I thought dispite the pressure croshaw looked
> pretty good. He could of got flustered and gotten happy feet but

I thought Croshaw moved around very well to avoid the pressure, better than I ever expected him too. However, you are right. You could see after that first fumble, and a long pass (to Christiansen or Lyman, can't remember) where he got absolutely drilled, that he started to get the yips in the pocket and hear the footsteps. He got dropped hard several times in the first half as well.

> The D was great Arizona had 150 yard total offense all night.

The defense did everything you could have asked and then some. The offense gave them bad field position several times and they still rose up to the challenge. What else can you do when you hold the opponent to three(!!!!!) pass completions all night. The personal foul on Garrett Smith was a killer. They would have been in a 3rd and 8, but instead, it's first and ten on the 13 and the rest is history. The second score really took the wind out of the team.

> What is up with our special teams? Whetman was really bad. I

The misses set up bad things later. The drive to the two? Had they made even two of the previous misses, the score at that point would have been 14-9. You kick the field goal and let your defense go do it's job again. This is a big problem, because the offense lacked the umph to push it in. They could move it between the 20's, but Arizona's defense got stingy after that. To get into the red zone as many times as they did and get three points in the game is terrible.

There is definitely room for improvement, but I don't think the defense has a reason to hang their heads at all. The O-line, receivers, and all aspects of the kicking game need to look in the mirror and sack up.

Go Utes! Bounce back against the Bears!

More thoughts on the offense - particularly QB's

Posted By: ColoUte <everutes@hotmail.com> (ip115.salt-lake-city9.ut.pub-ip.psi.net)
Date: Sunday, 3 September 2000, at 9:24 p.m.

I've said this about Crowshaw in the past - he takes WAAAAAAAY too long to deliver the ball. He finally faced a pass rush with a modicum of speed, and he was hammered. I've never really liked Crowshaw's arm either. I've actually thought Darnell's was stronger - just not nearly as accurate. (Darnell also throws a nicer spiral - too bad it's rarely near the receiver.)

Most of TD's balls are wounded ducks just begging to be picked off. The thing TD has going for him is his composure and his decision making skills - both of which sucked last night. He was staring down his primary receiver from the moment the team broke the huddle, and was still trying to thread it into triple coverage. The TD experiment is over. It was nice while it lasted, but TD needs to be the back-up.

I guess that leaves Darnell. I wish Breska didn't have to sit out. He sounds like he's ready to go based on scrimmage reports and what the coaches have said. I don't think Elliot is the answer either unless we're conceding the season - and I'd just as soon lose a couple of more games before doing that. I think Darnell is the guy, but the offense needs an overhaul. I don't think I saw 15 different plays from the Utes last night. That offense is entirely too simplistic for 2 senior QB's.

Darnell needs to have the offense redesigned for his strengths. Look at the games where Darnell was most effective. It was during his freshman and sophomore years when the offense was designed to let him move and use his speed as a strength. Tommy Lee needs to roll Darnell out more, give him more quick hit slants and hitches, and give him more dump offs to backs and TE's running with the bootleg.

Also, I think the Utes need to install an option. Now that's not to say they should be an option team, but they should have a couple of plays in the arsenal. (Incidentally, I think Crockett would be an AWESOME pitch man.) An option play scores on that QB draw from the 2 last night. The wing back on the strong side did NOTHING in that play except throw a lame block on the cornerback who ended up tackling Darnell. If he takes a pitch instead, he walks in untouched - particularly since I guarantee Arizona wouldn't have been expecting it. We ran a couple of option plays Darnell's freshman year, and I haven't seen hide nor hair of them since.

If there were any bright spots on the offense, it was Cliff Russell. That guy is amazing. If he can get a QB who could deliver him the ball, he'd be All American. Yes, he dropped a sure TD early in the game, but he was money later on including that amazing catch over the defender. The Utes have GOT TO find a way to get him the ball more. Josh Lyman looks like a solid third down back, and Chris Christensen needs to relearn the routes. He ran three of them wrong last night.

Of course, the biggest overhaul needs to happen on the O-Line - particularly Left Guard. That was excruciatingly soft last night. I can't count the number of times D'Shaun was looking for a hole and hopped up on the back of the Left Guard who had been flattened by the DT. This is a line who supposedly contains three future pros - Kafusi, White, and Gross. If they play like they did last night they'll be lucky to be pro french-fry guys.

Why this stinks, and why we shouldn't be worried (or surprised!) (kind of long)

Posted By: L.A. Ute!
Date: Sunday, 3 September 2000, at 10:25 a.m.

Last night I had a family commitment, so I dutifully taped the game, planning to come home and watch the whole thing without knowing the outcome. When I got back (after a really nice evening with my sons)I happened to flip on the TV, thinking the game had to be over by then. I saw the 17-3 score and about 3 minutes on the clock and decided I didn't need or want to watch the tape (I'm not a masochist). So all I know about the game is what I saw in the wrapup and in the DesNews this morning.

With the benefit of a night's sleep and some soothing Sunday morning music, I offer the following observations for what they are worth:

1. I love McBride and what he's done for the Ute program.

2. I hate the way McBride loses games he should win. I especially hate the way his key players are not prepared in key situations. (I'm thinking of Croshaw's fumbles, maybe unfairly. I didn't see them.)

3. Overall the MWC did well last night. BYU beat Virginia at Virginia, and even though it was one of those silly BYU scoring contests remniscent of the late 70's and early 80's, a win's a win' baby, especially on the other team's home field. (Just ask Arizona!) I was proud of CSU against Colorado. Two good wins for the MWC. I was really hoping the Utes would make it 3-0 for the night, but such was not to be.

4. Is it possible that Ronnie's penchant for underachievement is what's keeping the fan's away? I have to admit, part of me was a little glad that I had an excuse not to watch last night's game in real time because I was afraid of what the Utes would do. I wonder if the local Utah fans don't feel the same way. Unless you're a real died in the wool fan, why go to the time and trouble and expense of attending a game if the team has a history of disappointing?

I want to be clear about that last point. I'm not saying fans should only show up for a win. I am saying that fans will show up if they think they're going to get good football-- meaning a good 110% effort and sharp playing and coaching. If fans think the team is Jekyll and Hyde, and when Hyde shows up, the fans are likely to be embarrassed, then they won't show up.

Contrast Majerus's basketball teams with the football team's inconsistency. We know that if we go to to a Utah b-ball game we're going to see good basketball, 110% effort, and no weirdly disappointing losses. There are exceptions, of course, but they are very rare. So maybe that's one of the fundamental problems with the McBride football program.

5. This can still be a good season. Face it, this kind of loss happens every year (doggonit!!!), and we can put it behind us. You know, it builds character, they can learn from it, it's good to get the loss behind us, etc., etc.

It still stinks, however.

I also couldnt watch it live and put a tape in. I came home ,flipped on the tv and saw Russel make the catch and streak down the right side to the 2! Then the score flashed and I thought oh well here we come. The next four plays were instructive as to what had happened. I watched it out and then rewound and watched the whole thing. Ugly game for both teams.

The defense was excellent, holding anybody under 200 yards is great. The offense was pathetic, i couldnt believe we had 300 yards passing. No running game at all and hoping to hit a deep one. Since we almost tripled their yardage I want to take some solace but it was just plain hard to watch.

What happened to the jc RB? Is he still here? And Dennis Smith and Lundy? The Qb situation may be fatal this year unless we can beat a few 3-0. The o-line didnt exactly impress either. We have great speed at receiver with questionable hands and heart, no running backs and no quarterback. The defense is as good as I have seen us but we may have to live off turnovers to score and we didnt get one.

Theres always next week and hopefully the O will begin to gel. It will be interesting to see what Az's offence does against Ohio state. were we that good or were they that bad.

Big wins for CSu and BYu or this year would be a disaster for the MWC. Wyo lokked decent at Auburn but the rest of us have been bad.
