HOOPS: The view from row 4...

was ugly. Worst effort I've seen out of a Ute team in a long time.

- I hope that Rick had a 3 hour practice today to explain the lack of energy of the team

- We were outrebounded by a team that had no power forwards or centers...ouch, and I mean ouch.

- They got more layups and dunks than Texas.

- Jeff J played out of control a little than he had been and forced some plays, but he also made some big plays and at least came to play.

- Nick J is a very good shooter. He is showing me some consistency and maturity, which is great.

- The rest of the team was not very good

- Osmundson was bad tonite, and played a selfish PG

- Osimani, in the short time he was in there, was worse. I think he broke a Utah record for turnovers per time played

- That was the most selfish I've seen a Utah team play. Almost every player took a shot that was contested where he had an open teamate. Guys like BJ and Jacobson are okay to do that,as their role is to score, but Caton and Osmundson shouldn't.

- BJ played well on the offensive end, but was not very good on defense. He needs to stay on his feet. I think someone told him that if the player he is guarding pump fakes, it's a rule that he has to jump.

- If Whitworth had any real talent other than "gunner" we would have been in trouble. We let them hang around until they gained some confidence and were playing with abandon. Really, though, they didn't have the talent that Westminister does. One good player.

- Majerus' system only works when the team hustles, especially on the defensive end. If they don't, it makes them look really bad, which they did.

- Who will rebound now that Chris is out? BJ has a guard's mentality, which serves him well outside, but means he's not a good rebounder

- Cullen did look like a 4th year player. But unfortuneatley, he's not a rebounder. He does spot up well and shoots well, which he did tonite and erased an early deficit.

- Allred has Eaton's disease, where he has to bring the ball down to the waist to get up. He was stuffed twice tonite by a guy who is 6'4" tall. Lance also has to remember that he's not the focal point of the offense. He's a black hole; when the ball gets thrown into the post to him, it doesn't come out...and the result usually isn't good. It was not Allred's best game. Remember your role, Lance.

- Please tell me they practiced today. We looked winded and disinterested, like we were trying to get home.

A win is a win, so I'll stop whining now. Game ball to JJ and NJ

HOOPS: What was THAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Good Criminy, I haven't seen anything that ugly since someone maliciously fully illuminated the dance floor at the Ivy Palace.

You know, Crimson mentioned on the other forum that he didn't see why anyone would ever refer to a victory as a "debacle." Obviously, he wasn't cursed to sit through what happened at the HC last night.

I simply don't get it. I have a ton of questions;

1. How does a guy like Britton Johnsen - who's 6'10 and has a load of athleticism - get just 5 rebounds against a team who's tallest guy is 6'5? Is it because he had at least 3 ripped right out of his hands?

2. How is it that Britton's 5 rebounds lead the Utes? How is it that neither of the other two 6'10 guys combined for 5 rebounds? How is it that a team that put 3 6'10 guys gets outrebounded by this team with no one taller than 6'5?

3. How is it that guys that couldn't get scholarships at ANY D-1 or D-II school can blow past every line of defense for layups on 6 of their first 8 possessions? How did Gunner Olsen not get a D-1 Sholarship? He's got better hops than anyone on our team.

4. How is it that Bryan Depew can get the ball with his back to the basket, muscle Britton/Cullen/Allred til he's basically under the basket, and still get a shot off? Why didn't Britton get the ball in the post when he was scoring at will when he got the ball in the paint? (In his defense, he really did have a couple of sweet post moves. OK, back to piling on.) How do we get outscored by 6 in the paint?

5. And what's up with those Gymnastics flyers? Don't they realize how many people in Utah County they're pissing off with those provocative poses? How many aneurysms will exUte have when he sees them? How many of you knew that sleeveless leotards are going to be allowed by the NCAA this year - in another blatant anti-LDS move? Why does the NCAA persecute my people so?

Well, I guess there's one positive coming out of last night: Someone's even more pissed off than I am about that spectacle. Majerus did a 3 minute coach's show, apologized to the fans, and left. I'm guessing that was about the limit of what he could endure without swearing. To be honest, I'm approaching my limits. I should probably wrap up.

GO UTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(C'mon, we need to be better than that!)
