Basketball is in the air...here are different ways to tell that you are obsessed about college hoops:
1. The 9th of November (college hoops first "official" games) is circled on your calendar, 1 year in advance.2. You can sit in front of the tv for 8-10 hours every Saturday watching some crappy Colonial Conference game on ESPN at 10am and then finish it off with some 8pm meaningless game on ESPN2.
3. You would actually watch a game between BYU and Mason State or whoever as long as it was the only game on TV.
4. You plan everything around a Ute basketball away game so that you can either watch or listen on the radio to the Utes beating Long Beach State.
5. You cry if the Utes lose...you cry if they didn't cover the point spread.
6. You actually sit through a Dick Vitale-called game and his endless rants about how "this coach is one of the game's bright stars, one of the greatest coaches in all the land...he is a diaper dandy that we will probably only see one year 'cause he going to the pros baby...this is unbelieeeeble, what a game, what a coach, what a player...it's all about respect baby."
7. You watch a game, and you think to yourself, if I was playing I would have done this and then maybe they would have won.
8. You know every player just by looking at him, and then you call him by his first name when you watch him play, and you know just about everything he has ever done...including whether or not he has a current girlfriend, if he went to class today, the player's pet peeves, what he ate for breakfast, what he is looking for in a woman, his favorite type of dance move and whether or not he likes dogs or cats.
9. Though you dread the end of the season, you are acutally really excited about it because it means that you can start figuring out who your team is recruiting.
10. You often let out uncontrollable hoots of joy around large groups of people, just because you realize that hoops season is here.
I am not all of those, but I realize that
I am enough of those reasons to feel pretty pathetic. It is a great time
of year. Go Utes!
