1. The Alex Jensen factor -- Majerus loves this kid and he is still only a junior. This is the biggest reason in my mind as to why he won't leave now.
2. Tony Harvey -- he commited to Utah ONLY after Majerus commited to staying here. In recent articles, Majerus has pointed out how much Tony has changed and that he is now a great student athelete.
3. The possible recruiting class -- yes, Huber and Allred are going on missions prior to this season but that really doesn't hurt us, in fact, it will give us two players with a great deal of maturity in 2 years when they return. Neither one is a future NBAer at this point.
Jacobson, is a great player and will make an instant impact. Majerus guaranteed this kid 25 minutes a game as a freshman. He is instant offense.
Andy Slocum, has stated that he will follow Majerus where ever he coaches. Well with Majerus having stated that he is 99% sure that he will stay at Utah. Slocum will be in a Ute jersey next season.
Jason Kapono(God, I want this kid to sign with us)-- if he signs with the Utes watch out. I have a feeling that he may follow his friend to Mizzou. He does however love Majerus as a coach, hopefully this makes the decision for him.
Trent Whiting, what a great point guard, I have seen him play in person. He's got game. Between Colbert and Whiting the point will be taken care of next year.
4. Who else will guarantee Rick a suite with meals and cleaning on the house? This isn't part of his base salary.
5. No one actually knows what Rick actually makes here at Utah between his shoe deals, school salary, and benefits package.
6. The Huntsman factor -- Rick does a lot of world travel with this guy. They are friends and ,well, Huntsman bleeds Ute red.
7. Rick's cardiologist is a physician here in Salt Lake. This also is an important factor.
Any questions or add to's, just reply!
Rick Majerus is the Utah coach for a long time.
Go Utes!!!!!

Even if Slocum or Kapono DON'T come to the U, we have a team that is stacked with great potential for the next few years. We will be deeper than ever, more talented than ever and we will have players returning each year that will know the system. I believe this is what Majerus has been trying to build since he got here. Like we stated below, it is a reloading not a rebuilding time.
I think that is one of the biggest reasons, behind the promise to the players, that Majerus will stay. He is breaking the traditional myths that you can't get great talent to come to Utah, and he is doing it with players that want to be coached, and coached by him.

...is certainly NOT a reason for a coach to stay if a better or more attractive job position becomes available. Rick expressed regret over leaving Ball State after he recruited Chandler Thompson there, who is probably the most talented player ever at Ball State (including Bonzi Wells), but it wasn't enough to prevent him from coming to Utah.
Even Al Jensen said, when asked if Rick was going to leave, "...he didn't promise anything, but I hope he stays..." (Channel 5 news, player interview).

I concur. I reside in Phoenix. If Majerus was going to go, it would have been to ASU. Why? His buddy is the athletic director there. ASU has a program that with the right guy is not far from becoming respectable, and it is in a more prestigious conference. They were offering a lot of money.
I believe he didn't go because he recognizes that the U is close to a national championship. I don't think the shoe deal had anything to do with it. Might I add that his national recognition really blossomed at the U! Had he done the same with a back east school, it would have been discounted as a school that already had a good program. If he goes to Notre Dame, it will take him at least a couple of seasons to get them to the NCAA tourny. I think his consuming desire is to win the national championship.
I graduated from the U in 1982. I remember how exciting and rare it was that the Utes were ranked high and made it to the tournament (the Chambers and Vranes era). Back then I mostly remember that we were decent in basketball and horrible in football. I remember how much I hated BYU and football. It was difficult to be a Ute fan and alumni. Especially around all the ASU and U of A alumni. It is exciting to see so much improvement in our football program and I am thrilled that the basketball program has reached national prominence. The Utes are no longer dark horses or Cinderellas in basketball.
The U has been good to Majerus and he has been good to the U. It is great synergy. He will continue to draw in players that would not step foot in Utah otherwise (such as he did in getting Andre Miller). Majerus is a great asset for SLC too, which I am sure they greatly underestimate. Most people outside of Utah think of SLC has a bizarre place where Mormons live. That is too bad. It has changed a lot, with a much more diverse population than when I attended school there. It is clean, has a very temperate climate, and the skiing is fantastic. The U of U and Majerus success will help others to discover that.
