Here's a poll idea: If you had to pick one individual only, who is the most responsible for crippling Utah basketball?
, Rick Majerus. In an odd turn of events, the fat man both created a dynasty and then killed it off.
, Gordon Monson. The "Googley Eyed Tool" factor. The man who specialized in causing controversy. The man who disliked Majerus so much that he used his job as a local newspaper hack to drum up discontent and ill-will. (and who is now on a similar track with Boylen.)
, Lance Allred. A disgrace to cripples everywhere. A c***. He sat down with Monson and gave him a sob story, which Monson used to further his thinly veiled agenda. Everyone knew Allred wasn't happy - thus the transfer. A man would have kept the details to himself.
, Ray Giacoletti. Giac. We know Giac. We wish we didn't. Then again, we went to the sweet 16 under Giac. But he floundered toward the end and gave us the worst year Utah hoop has seen since I don't even know when. His team quit on him. His recruiting was poor....but he did land a few. Unfortunately, guys like Steven Weigh didn't work out. In the end, a poor run.
, Jeff Judkins. Juddy was run off by Majerus. Some say his departure was the beginning of the downfall of the Utes. He did something to get run off.
, Steven Weigh. Probably not. However, he was about the biggest recruit Giac ever landed. Ended up being a bust.
, Marc Jackson. Marc Freaking Jackson. This is my choice. Marc did more damage to the Utah program than any other individual. He was a star. He was really fantastic. Then, he didn't just leave the program. No. He left and used his status as a star - a guy who shouldn't leave - to flay Majerus. He stepped up to the mic and promptly tossed Majerus and the program under the bus. I loved watching him play, but he was cancer. Not cancer to a team, but to a program. To this day, I think he could have become a pro. He didn't because he missed the development and tutelage that would have come with a junior and senior year under a decent coach.
, Chris Hill. I know, it's blasphemous to mention Hill in a post like this, but let's look at it: First, it was under his watch that Majerus became bigger than life, bigger than the program, and bigger than the rules. Second, he hired Giac. Following Big rick was a tall order for anyone, but Giac was unprepared at best for this place. Perhaps when it came down to it, someone like Tommy Connor or Donny Daniels would have been a better choice. I mean, Giac had a weak resume and one good year coming in. He is now responsible for the hiring of Boylen. I am pretty sure we all hope that he'll come out of that pile of $#!+ smelling like a rose, but let's face it, tonight, that's not looking like a very strong possibility.
